Post Dealerships in Chicago, IL.

I've started to do research and possibly to purchase a 1997 or 1998 993 C2s or C4s. Can anyone tell me where a good dealership is in Chicago? Also what do you experts think is a fair price for a C2s or C4s with less than 25K miles, and which do you prefer. The car will only be used on nice days in the summer, the rest the queen stays in the garage.

Keith,

I'm in the midst of moving to Chicago myself, so I can't give you a recommendation of dealerships, but I do own a 97 C4S. Therefore, I'm partial to that model, but all the cars are great and just fine one that speaks to you.

As for the Garage Queen comment, these cars were built to be driven, not to sit in the garage. They will actually age better when driven - it keeps all the seals lubricated and everything working. When I first bought mine I felt the a little bit the same way, but soon you will want to drive it instead of letting it sit there by itself. Whatever you do, be sure to come out and participate in an AutoX and/or DE event and truly learn what the car can do - it is a blast.

Good luck with your purchase.

I've had good experiences with The Exchange in Highland Park, and Motorworks in Barrington. The Exchange is more Porsche-centric, and is in the process of building a Porsche dedicated facility.

(And I've also had the usual dealer headaches as well.)

If you are going the dealer route, I'd check out at least those two. No affilication, etc

the Exchange has a couple of 2S's right now. They have a list of used cars in the trib classified every weekend.

And welcome to our fair city. btw, we have a very active PCA region

Keith, 3 hours south in Springfield, Illinois is Isringhausen Imports. They sell high line autos all over the US and have many many customers in Chicago. I have purchased 10 or 12 cars from them over the last 20 years including 4 Porsches. They deal in very quality cars. You can check them out at Isringhausen.com. Ask for Anais or Dave Alender if you call as they are the Porsche specialist. If they dont have it them can usually find it. Mick McGlasson

Thank you all. I've heard of Isringhausen and I've heard they are very good.

The Porsche Exchange, I am not too happy about a salesman named Paul tried to sell me a C4s w/24k miles damaged bottom spoiler and a ding the size of a baseball for 62K. He also could not get his story straight in terms of when they got the car. First he says 1 day ago then he says 3 mo then 2 weeks...go figure. The steering wheel shook or vibrated during accelaration. I'll keep looking.

Keith,

I bought my 96' C4 from Isringhausen with Anies, I bought an 86' 944 turbo from them @ 1998.

Both cars bought unseen with no PPI , but have no problem whatsoever... I went up there to pick up both cars myself both times.

I think they do have a 97 C2S with low miles right now, but the price is on the high side. Never the less, I do recommend them without reserve...Good luck shopping... <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I second MIck's comments about Isringhausen. I just drove by and they have a BLACK 993TT (or "Turboized" C4S".

I got a good deal on my 993TT and Love it. If you can afford the $10-20K more to get to a TT I reccomend them.

Keith

can't blame you for going elsewhere.

you might call Bruce Semersky, the GM there, and tell him of your experiences.

Get that guy before he strikes again.

Lynch Porsche is under new management..Marty Johnson. If you live in the city it is very easy to get to. Marty is trying to make an effort to get new customers.

I own a '98 C2S with 5,200 miles on it. Zenith Blue/Gray interior, Sport Seats, HiFi, Factory Turbo s aero kit, Sport Chassis, Motorsound, Stainless tips. Paid $63,000 4 months ago.
