In search of ... my old 1998 C2S (purchased new)
This is a total stab in the dark, but given the unique option combination this car had, I thought it would be worth putting this out there … maybe another member owns it or knows of it! I have extensive records on almost all of the cars my family owned (including the VIN of our 1979 930), but simply can’t find any documents on this particular car. So frustrating
After owning it for roughly 6 months and 1,132 miles (will never forget that number), I let it go … yes, like an idiot. I sold it to a dealer in St. Louis, and it then went to its 2nd owner in Cleveland, OH. After that, I lost track of it.
Here are the details:
1998 C2S
Arctic Silver / Classic Grey
Purchased new March 7, 1998
Sewickley Car Store, Sewickley, PA
030 – Sport Suspension
159 – Motor Sound Package
220 – LSD Limited Slip Differential
373 – Sports Seat, left
374 – Sports Seat, right
398 – 17” Wheels
490 – HiFi Sound System
601 – Litronic headlights
688 – CD-radio, Becker CDR-210
692 – 6-disc CD changer
Z53 – Head restraints w/ Porsche Crest
X54 – Wide Oval Stainless exhaust tips
X70 – Stainless steel door entry guards
X71 – Aluminum instrument dials
XD4 – Wheel caps with colored Porsche Crests
XE8 – Dark Rootwood Shifter
XE9 – Dark Rootwood brake lever
XRD – Red brake calipers
I decided to get another 993 in January 1998 and reached out to Sewickley to see what they had or what they could find. Unfortunately, every C2S & C4S they could find had already been spoken for. After spending a few sullen weeks, the GM called to let me know that he was just allocated a C2S and C4S, both in Arctic Silver, and that I had first choice between them. The C4S was equally optioned with the exception of not having Sports Seats and was running on Sport Classics. After hearing that the C2S had Sports Seats, it was a no brainer … other than the 17s.
I was told that 18s could not be optioned in combination with the Sport Suspension and LSD … not that there is any truth to that point, but none the less that was what I was told when I asked “why no 18s?” Fortunately, they had a brand new set of 18" Hollow Spokes with tires that only had factory test miles on them, and the GM had planned on installing them without my even asking if I chose that car. None the less, I picked it up on a cold, rainy Saturday morning at the same time they were delivering the C4S one bay over.
Nothing may come out this post, but what the heck … mom always told me it never hurts to ask!
Here are a few scans of 22 year old pictures ... please excuse their quality. As you can see in the pics, it still had the cardboard T-tag on it from delivery ...

Good luck with your search and great story.
Similar story sold my 1987 A36 Beech Bonanza (single engine airplane) in a moment of massive stupidity a few years ago. It was perfect when sold - better than new.
FAA makes tracking ownership easy though. Was trying to buy it back when the idiot owners ran it off a mountain runway and rolled it up into a ball. They walked away.

Have you tried PCNA to ask them to pull archival on the March Allocation of C2S's? There can't be that many and i'd bet they have the VIN in their records. As you said can't hurt to ask

What a car! I hope you are able to find it and reconnect with it.

Real shame to hear that happened to your Bonanza! We had a Piper Cheyenne which my father sold to a bank in West Virginia. After doing a tail number search years later, it was on a repositioning flight when it went into a mountain in heavy fog. Unfortunately, they didn’t walk away.

With all the privacy laws in place it maybe even more difficult to locate. For starters, I would run a CarFax on it to see what that tells you. That should be a great way to narrow down the location and even where it was last serviced provided they report to CarFax. Those shops might even disclose to you who owns it and more. Porsche will not disclose anything other than open recalls due to privacy concerns. Best wishes in your search and keep us posted.

Maybe I'm strange that way!

I understand thus my comments ref: "Privacy" which I'm fully aware of. But he's got to start somewhere and that's probably his best chance for info. Heck, the car could even be totaled or who knows its condition thus run the report. Be safe!

Finding "that" MY98 C2S should be cake . . . .
993pbug - The story goes that no two 911's are alike. Sure, but close counts for something . . But for the last 3 options on your list (Rosewood & Red Calipers) my 993 C2S spec is identical but for adding Full Black Leather interior, additional Leather, R. Wiper, and a few others. Going back and forth with the options sheet before settling on a build spec. stirs fond memories. Good luck with reacquainting with your 993 C2S.
