Post Flip up LCD screen

I am looking to install a flip up lcd screen in my 993 but they all seem not able to clear the dash.

The eclipse 7002 maybe could clear?

Has anyone ever installed a unit with any luck?

Alpine, Clarion, Sony etc.?

Sorry I looked at this for my 993TT last summer. Not one single unit will fit. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

I have an Alpine CVA-1005 with flip up LCD colour widescreen installed in mine.

The compromise was to remove the centre vents and create a neat black cavity which perfectly fits the screen. The previous owner did this installation and it looks factory.

It is an amazing asset to have full colour scrolling maps and navigation in the car, as well as DVD playback, etc

It is also nice to have a screen which disappears when the car is not in use and the unit looks like a plain black box worth nothing to the would-be car stereo thief.

Only drawback is that the screen gets in the way of the buttons such as rear windscreen heater when it is up. I have learned to work around it.

If you are interested, I can post a photo of the installation.

Hi Graham....Definitely would be interested in some pics. I've looked at similiar options with little luck and many unanswered questions.

Enjoy the SuperBowl........

Graham
Sounds like a great idea, could you please post some pictures?

How much custom work is involved?

Is it reversible, so when i sell the car i can put the vents back?

Malibusteve and Air Cooled,

I will be happy to post some photos but my car is currently having some work done at the dealer. I will take a photo or two as soon as I get the car back.

Cheers,
Graham

Sorry for the delay. I only got my car back today from the dealer (I let them hang on to it over the snow/ice/salt season )

As promised, here are photos of the flip screen installation:

That looks great! I'm curious though.. what's the effect to the air conditioning/heating and general temps in the vehicle with the center vents gone? We hit two extremes here... single digits during the winter and 90's in the summer. Having only had my 993 for a couple of months, I have only used the AC once and never the heat, but from what I understand, the climate "management" is already lacking in the 993. I'm curious if the removal of the center vents affects this even more.

Hey guys, I recently purchased the Alpine IVA900 In-Dash 7" Screen. Fits like a Glove. The Main vent didnt need to be cut except gutting out the main vent to make it work. If i can get pics to work, ill post them up to. Thanks!

Cool.. I'd love to see how it looks! What do you mean by "gutting out the main vent"? Do you still lose its functionality?

My Friend's shop that did the install, Cut everything out of the center vent EXCEPt the trim ring around it, I suggest if your gonna do this, leave the trim ring, because it will look VERY nasty and not so "factory look." The center piece thats blocking the vent is actually some Speaker cover mesh so the Air can still go right through the vent and have it functional, but still look "nice" instead of something taht was missing their. Hope this helps!
