Post Any experience with SS brake hoses anyone?

I am contemplating changing my brake hoses to ss brake hoses after my mechanic recomended i do so.It is time i change my disks and pads and i was debating on the hoses. My targa has 70k with the stock brake system.I would like to hear of some experiences or any comments about this. The archives dont have enough info on this topic.

Regards Nick

Stay with the stock hoses. No reason to change to SS.

Totally agree

a) switched to them on my '84 Carrera Turbo-Look. Absolutely no improvement at all.

b) I have personally witnessed two SS brake line failures and heard of others. Have not heard of a single OE rubber line failing on a decently maintained car.

The problem with SS hoses is that the SS sheathing is very abrasive, so look out for anything the hoses rub against.

In addition, there is no way to visually inspect the inner core. Race teams get around that by frequently replacing the SS hoses. You probably aren't going to be doing that.

Not sure about the 996 Cup or GT3RS but the 993 GT2 and others (that I have seen) use the same factory brake lines that the street cars use. I am sure they change them more frequently but I can't imagine why you would want to change them. Another issue my mechanics team ran into was the slight size difference (inner diameter) caused some problems with the ABS.
Visually inspect them for cracks and replace if needed.

Your money is better spent on something else, like DE's. These machines and the brakes on them exceed the capabilities of 95% of the drivers out there so there is no need. Even on my SC, when I replaced the lines, I used OEM. If they lasted 17 years the first time...

Porsche mechanics should know all this (posted above), so we can be suspicious when one recommends the switch anyway.

Just like the rubber pedal covers on the 993 and 996 cup cars and the 993 GT2 turbo race cars, if the rubber brake line hoses are good enough for the real hard core race guys, they are good enough for me.
