Yep. That's the real deal. Very, very rare. They sold new for more than $150K. They seem to go used for $75k-95K or so. I am very partial to the slope-nose, slant-nose or flachbau (in German) since I had a Guard's red 87. This car is a rocket. I have heard that the actual HP numbers are closer to 500, but Porsche wanted to keep this quiet, since these were only for really special clients.

Porsche did make a 964 Turbo S flat nose (usually referred to as flat nose instead of slant nose) Quite rare. Not particularlly good looking in my opinion. Should really go!! and only 2 wheel drive.

There is a registry for these and I beleive one of
our own rennlisters Les Quam has one.
I'd be worried about this one though. WHy would the
bumpers and a fender be painted for sun wear on
such a rare car? not in the garage? hard to beleive.
the interior show more wear than 13K miles and there
is a speaker cover missing with something else on the
passenger door.

I am no expert but it may not be missing a speaker grill. It seems more like it's an aftermarket speaker that is a different color cone which just shows through. Pic makes it hard to tell. Not my flavor of Porsche...IMO looks 911'ish with a flat nose and 928 looking lights.

there was an article on the 3.6S cars about 3 months back in one of the british porsche magazines (GT ??). Supposedly they were in some ways similar to a gt2 in that they were lighter (sorta like an rs) and had the single turbo - im not an expert, but the article made it sound very special.

This car is also listed in "40 Fast Years" on the PCNA website, I think at the end t the end of the 964 section, with specs. I like the 968ish front end, which at least looks like some kind of Porsche, and much better than the Boxterish 99 996.

The car is a Turbo Flachbau but not a Turbo S. Only 80-83 Turbo S were produced and non of them were Flachbaus. BTW, I think the slant nose destroys the beautiful lines of the 964/965.

I think thats the same car I saw at a recent meet in Orlando. Assuming it is the same car, it was left outside for a few years, hence the partial fading. I thought the owner was going to give it a full cosmetic restortion. Gorgous car IMO.

Apparently there may be a mileage issue with this car. Recently these cars have sold between $85k and $140K. Many sold for well over $200k in 1994 making it one of the more expensive Porsches.

The car was a stock turbo 3.6 with modified fenders, quarters and tail cosmetically. The engine was modified with the X88 package this included cams, turbo, additional oil cooler, 4 pipe exhaust tips. Other than the black turbo script followed by an S under the tail vs the silver turbo 3.6 the rest is stock 3.6 turbo. I don't think the Hp was near 500 closer to 400. They were not lightened weighing in at about 3200+ pounds. I know someone who has a stock one and he has gone against the new Streidel (spelled how?) and out powered them. He claims it easily out powers a 993TT and 996TT but not as fast as his GT2.

Only 39 original US versions with the slope nose and 19 with the modified X88 engine and stock front fenders (known as project cars) were produced out of the 80 or so produced for the entire world. 10 of the 80 were Japanese versions that do not look the same. Most of these cars are in private collections and do not get driven often.

Les Quam or MarkS will know more about them. Mark's car has been modified beyond stock X88 modifications. Unless you are Mark or Viper Bob the cars did not throw flames due to stock exhaust. Sorry.
