I'm a little late to the roast.
I've generally found JB's posts humorous, benign & frequently, if one understands his irony, even informative. He also brings an understanding of Rennlist history which is incorporated in some of his posts. Perhaps that historical perspective is lost on some newer posters, but I've enjoyed it. [Graham - JB's post to which you referred is a case in point - I didn't read it to slam you, but as a general caution in light of a bit of unfortunate Rennlist history.]
IMO, JB has provided value to Rennlist during the years I've been here, perhaps in an unconventional way, but value nonetheless. While I won't miss his avatar, I will miss his posts & hope he will reconsider.

I am troubled by the fact that some seem overly concerned that every post have some major contribution to the Porsche knowledge base.
I recognize that time is important and no one wants to waste time reading pointless posts...yet...I love the "pub" analogy that has been used here before.
Sometimes it is great to do a search and get the answer you need to a question.
Sometimes though, you just want to step up to the bar, throw one back and chat.
I posted last week about some tire damage. I knew in my heart what my answer was, but what I really wanted was some of my virtual buddies to just weigh in and tell me that yep...it sucks, but throw down the cash for a new tire. Not sure that contributed to anyone else...but it helped me a lot.
I am disappointed that old-timers are leaving. To a certain degree perhaps that is inevitable. It probably only takes a year or two to cover most of the topics that are ever going to need to be covered. Sure, there are new mods and updates, etc... but after that why would anyone hang around, if not to just chat. If this place is losing it friendliness to just chat...then why stay?
Can't this board function well in its dual role?
I have laughed at many a JimBob post, though sometimes I dont always get the joke. Not sure that I have ever been offended.
Seems to me...we need to lighten up a bit, aim for a bit more acceptance of the fact that this board can never meet the needs of everyone all the time.
If you are dedicated to reading every post, you are from time to time, get bored and offended. Maybe there should be a manditory one month rennlist vacation once a year. Then when we all came back it would seem a bunch more valuable, the community would be missed and some of the personalities would be better appreciated.

As other's have said, Jim Bob sure seemed like he was another Rennlister in disguise having a good time. I can't believe that people get thier panties in a bunch over what gets said on an internet board. Big deal. Don't like it, scroll down.
Take a look at the other boards here. Long thread on the Boxster Forum: Is the Boxster a girls car?
Long thread on the 996 TT forum: My supra can kick your a$$.
I challenge you to find a technical topic in the first 10 or 20 on the regular 996 forum.
Be happy and learn from what you have here, because someday it will be gone.

I liked JB and hope he'll not be lsot forever. This is a public board, ist free and anyone can use it; people are different but accepting people's differences and making the best of them is one great thing we can get from the internet. My opinion is that, if you can't you're not intelligent enough.
The large avatar was a bit naff though...

It seems ironic that in a Nation where one of Our rights that We have repeatedly fought and died for(both internally and afar) is Freedom of Speech, that We are having this discussion in Our Community. It seems that Freedom of Speech will always come under attack because it has always, and will always offend someone else. If We dont care for Jim Bob's antics Do We boot Him? If We don't like Rap Music, should We censor it? As a descendant of immigrants from overseas, who fought and died to get here for just those reasons I think We should be very careful....My family gave up everything for the chance to get here. They made it against very large odds as have many others. They then worked hard to make the most of the opportunity and were quite successful!......Only to lose everything again...to be literally burned off of their land and watch all they had worked for go up in smoke in the Civil War(fighting amongst ourselves...what a waste....). One of the most difficult aspects of living here is that others dont see things the way I do!lol Of course that is what makes it great! That is why I have learned so much from this board, because others have a different perspective, and different knowledge. That in and of itself is Our greatest strength as a community. We have all been fleeced by the unscrupulous vendor, dealer, seller, etc... With a great and diverse member base, We are actually stronger, more knowledgable, etc...as a group. Everytime we lose a JimBob, or a Viken, or.... We lose part of us that makes us better, stronger, faster, etc...Even though some of these individuals(including myself of course) at times offend Us in one way or another. In a Global Economy it would seem important for Us to be able to embrace diversity. I don't believe any of Us can be globally competitive without being able to communicate effectively with others of different, languages, races, religions, beliefs etc... In fact at this particular time(global recession) we all probably have to pull as hard as possible, both individually and as a group to get this thing rebooted asap! Sorry for the long winded post and I hope to see JB and his alter ego(and the others who have left for whatever reason) back soon! PS a printed copy of this post will serve as a coupon good for food or drink on me anytime a fellow lister is in the Dallas area.
Warmest personal regards,

As one of the first timers on the email side of days past, Porschefans and PorscheList things have changed. While not bad they are different. With this many people in one spot things are bound to take a noticeable change. I too suspect that JimBoB is someone we all know and respect. I definitely enjoy the posts. They bring a smile to my face when I am having a crappy day. Like so many other things pass it if you don't like it. The other aspect is when you have a question, it gets answered. We need to stay enlightened. <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

I would say there comes a point where most of us have zero questions to ask relative to our cars until we run into a problem (and we search for the answer!) and that we stop by the board to chat or see a thread where we might contribute. I would also guess that being human and pretty predictable we are not much different in our other off board life. Take it with a grain of salt, but if you have a sense of humor you are, in my opinion, a lot better off in life. If you don't, well then you are probably a control freak who can look around you (or others can) and see an unhappy, manipulating, power tripping snob. Come on back, JimBob! I would also add that there has not been much around here latley for Viken to add too....

Well at least we now have our first subject for the year's installment of the "Scariest Thoughts for a Rennlist Halloween".
Sam
Maybe that should be a seperate thread.
My guess was he was Wendelin Weideking or Fred Schwab, being in Atlanta and all.

I agree w/your points about free speech, unless of course it's in my office
BTW, you don't need no stinkin' coupon for food or drink if you visit St. Louis - just give me a call.

Jim Bob: I can't believe you are leaving so peacefully...perhaps it was the huge avetar that set me off. You certainly are not required to leave the List. There is free speech on Renn List within the confines of what the Moderator will tolerate.
If you have something to contribute, please continue to post. A well crafted, informative post is always appreciated. But the relentless monothematic humor does not stand up over time (Monothematic is my personal made up word, I kind of like it.) At least that is how it seemed to me and dozens of others Rennlisters.
Best of luck with whatever you will be doing.

I don't find JimBob entertaining, just a little annoying. I love a good laugh as much as anybody but I just don't understand what's supposed to be entertaining in JimBob's posts. I don't wish he'd leave, I wish he'd speak normal.
Regarding those that disappear from the group because they got offended - lighten up. Same for JimBob for deciding to drop off permanently now. So a few people can't stand your posts. You decide to be different - accept that some people won't like it. Heaven forbid they speak up - like you do.
JimBob and people like him don't keep this board alive. They don't keep it entertaining. No one person or elite group of people does. The new people that come in thrilled with their new prize, the people who had a fun drive to work today, the people who came up with a top 10 list of reasons to love (or even hate) our cars, and even the people who spanked a hopped up Civic recently keep the board entertaining. The people who write DIY's, the people who help troubleshoot problems, the people who refer good vendors and aftermarket parts (despite the rules) and the people who give advice on general life around here keep this board alive. The guy behind JimBob might be both - JimBob, in my opinion, is neither. Just becaues he's gone, don't make him out to be the fallen hero.
