Default Oh My GAWD!! my car has SOUND!!

Well thanks to ViperBob, (I have no affiliation with ViperBob
other than asking him a gazillion questions, buying
parts from him and wearing "I buy from ViperBob" Sweatshirt,
planning a drivers ed with him and doing a DIY PSS9
in the future, no affiliation yada yada yada)
I got some fabSpeed muffler bypass pipes. I installed them
in about 30 minutes. It took longer to jack up the car
than put in the pipes! You only have to remove the muffler
strap- loosen the clamp around the cat-muffler joint. Lift the
muffler off its hanger and pull it out. put the bypass pipe
in the muffler cat joint clamp and ta! da! Now the good part
turn over the key and SOUND! real SOUND! it sounds great
at idle but when you hit the gas it sounds like a cross
between a big ole v8 and a ferrari if you can imagine that.
Anyway if you have been thinking about it do it! The pipes
are polished stainless and the tips are ovals.
very nice.

Kewel! Thanks for the report.

I'm getting new wheels tomorrow so that's my allowance this month. Muffler bypasses are on my list. I had a guy tell me the other day he likes my Z06 better than the 993TT because the Porsche sounds like a Volkswagen. How embarrassing...

That sounds great, OG - no pun intended! Seriously, though, I think the Fabspeeds sound super. Can't wait to see & hear your car now.

Paul,

I told you you'ld like them. Did you take the car out for a REAL drive yet? You'll find that you have more HP with less back pressure and less exhaust route travel.... The best it yet to come with them.

Tour18, I know how you feel. I was on a Porsche Winery tour drive and there was a RUF Turbo circa '87. The guy bought the car for $50K and spent another $50K rebuilding the engine at RUF. It was putting out 425HP at the flywheel, and sounded so freaking good with the turbo burble and all (the car also looked awesome, slant nose and all). I had my turbo and had 100+HP on the guy, and I sounded like I had an exhaust leak for a car. Next day I was waiting for my muffler bypasses to arrive....

my schedule slows down.
Tour your TT will sound better than
your Z06 after this!

If it had been anyone else, I would have been a bit offended. But this guy is totally NOT a gear head. And, I guess with the 993's general mechanical noise, compared to the Z06's titanium trumpets, it does sort of sound like a VW... hehehe...

Bob, your right I had to ahem... go get some milk
so I took out the TT and did a couple 1st and 2nd gear pulls
with the boost guage on, Geeesh instant .8 bar man
that is quick. Much snappier throttle, as i would say
talking about a MX bike. Much snappier!

I don't feel offended when people compare 911's to Volkswagons (bugs). I typically tell them I agree since the same person engineered both - 95% of the time the person who made the comment didn't know that and responds with "Oh".

OG. I've heard a '97 Turbo with your set up. Absolutely awesome. I even had to get out and have my friend come by me at full throttle between 50 and 70. Whoa. I haven't been able to get the sound out of my head. I'm sure my n/a would sound good also. I have TechArt mufflers/pipes and they have a very nice sound with no resonance (close to RSR sound) but the Fabspeed set up is another level. I like that level.

Friend told me the other day he hates loud cars. I told him he was just going to like my car less and less as time went on....

How do you like the way the pipes look? If you have pics, maybe post some if you get a chance.

By the way, the wheels you repaired came out great!

Chuck I took some before pics and I will take some
after pics tommorow. To me the ovals match sorta
what the old ones did. but when you look underneath
and see all that polish it really looks kewl.
Thanks about the wheels I was purty happy.

OG,

You're gonna scramble the brains of all of the ricers you pass. It's even better through a tunnel.

DC, you forgot the link....

I know that houses are 5-10 times as expensive in the rest of reality, but where else can you drive your Porsche 12 months out of the year? And not have any rain for 8 of those 12 months? That has to be worth something, right??

Lee, I will leave you alone as I have inadvertantly been known to set some people off down the slopes......

Flowmasters. Any of you guys heard of them The best hot rod sounds are Chevy 350 inchers (ZZ4, etc) through Flowmasters. Basically 2.5" diameter all the way through on both sides. Which Porsche muffler setup sounds like that with kind of a hollow resonance, no bark ! Anyone ?
