Lexpilot,

I used flowmasters with a destroked 400 / 383 CI with 12.5 pistons and it sounded MEAN... Flow characteristics, displacement, and 47 other factors are what they are. If you want some really mean sound from your Porsche ride, ask the folks about some Supercups....

Paul and Bob,
I realize you guys are driving TT's.... so can a normally asperated 96 use a cat bypass? I thought the o2 sensors would not allow it.

Viperbob, how do the benefits of the Fabspeed muffler bypass compare with those of the cat bypass, in terms of faster spool-up? I'm inclined to believe that the cat bypasses are better, but could be wrong. Also, the muffler bypasses save approx. 30-40 lbs. if I'm correct. I ask because I really want to add the cat bypasses but my environmental lawyer wife is beating me up over it. Thinking about the muffer bypasses as an alternative. I already have the Cargraphic exhaust muffler$, which sound great, not sure if the change (to either muffler or cat bypasses) would be worth it.

John,

I personally like just the muffler bypasses. They save 50+ lbs of weight, you shorten the exhaust route by a couple of feet, they reduce back pressure, and they are simple to install. The cat bypasses are 3 times as expensive, yes they do reduce back pressure, and they save a little under 10 lbs, but your exhaust travel length is the same, and exhaust note won't change much. Plus installing the cat bypass pipes are a pain. And then if you have emissions checks, you'll need to put the cats back on in order to pass. You will also have the whole Check Engine Light thing that you will get with the cat bypass.

See, you could keep the wife happy by protecting the environment by getting the muffler bypass pipes, and then you would have $1200 that you did not spend on the cat pipes and $500+ that you saved on the install. See, right there you almost have enough for a set of PSS9s.. I love math.....

Bob, your logic is flawless! I think I'll go the muffler bypass route. As much as I'd like to order from you, Fabspeed is just north of here in PA and I imagine the shipping will be less. Thanks for the reply.

John you should still Check Bob for price he may have a discount
and shipping is negligible.

John,
I just ordered a set of Supercups from Bob to replace my RSRs. I stopped at Joe's (Fabspeed) house last week and well......I won't go into detail, but, I ordered from Bob. Plus, Bob will no doubt keep you on slippery slope....The more he talked the more I add to my list. Super knowledgable and friendly, too bad he's in Cali. You west coasters are really fortunate.

Bob - Thanks again and I'll be in touch for the RS door panels.
