Most people use the blue masking tape. I comes off clean. If you want yellow, you can put colored duct tape over it. I would not put duct tape directly on the paint - it will be a bear to remove.
Need racing tape, not colored duck tape. Racing tape will not remove your paint as duct tape can. http://carcareonline.com is one good source for racing tape.
Racing tape and duct tape are the same. In the old days, racing tape came in any color you wanted, as long as it was Silver. It will not remove your piant - it will leave behind adhesive which is tough to clean.

Go to www.platz.com and look for a company named Phil's Automotive. He makes a latex paint that will help provide protection to your bumper etc when at the track.
Another option would be to get the vinyl that is used to make decals at sign shops and install.

Try the blue painters tape by 3m. Home depot or Lowes has it. I used it for my last de. I left it on all weekend, and it came off w/o any residue on monday. It survived the 4hr trip to savannoh, and 135mph on the strait. Just be careful in layering the tape towards the front of a car--like shingles are layered to keep the rain out. Otherwise the wind will get underneath, and you'll constantly be patching it.
Regarding duck tape and racing tape, I found they both use a cloth backing, but the difference is in the adhesive. Racer's tape uses a semi-permanent adhesive, but duck tape uses a permanent adhesive. I believe that more permanent adhesive can gain a negative attraction to the paint.
With racers tape, I tape up the headlights, fog lights, turn signal lights, gaps in the bra and the base of the mirrors that are not covered with the mirror bra and has worked well over the years.
Do *not* use racer's tape (sorry Mo). Made that mistake and could never get the cloth backing off even a well waxed hood. Never could get those scratches buffed out of the hood (not a P-car, thankfully)
I use a bra with decent results. There is minor rubbing and marking on top of the quarter panels, easily buffed out. I covered the head/fog lights with extra vinyl from an old bra.
Someone at the Tracquest event last week recommended clear adhesive shelf paper. He used it with great results on his 911 Targa.
