Default Cost for 30,000 mile service?

A few months ago my local Porsche specialist told me my 30,000 service would run about $1,000. Picked the car up today and it was $1,295. Is $1,295 reasonable?

What have others out there paid for this service interval?

I appreciate your responses.

Thanks.

I think I was quoted about $1,200 from my dealer; I changed the oil myself, and had an independent do the balance for $800.

Since then, I've used the goldmine at www.p-car.com to handle all the maintenance my own damn self

CDW,

The 30K service, to my memory, doesn't involve much beyond the oil/filter change ; which, granted, is a pretty penny when you have a shop do the work, but still a far cry from that $ amount. Just curious, what did your shop say they would do for said $1295?

Cost me $1,000 -- oil change, couple of belts, caps, plugs and wires. All done by an independant.

I did it (oil, filters, belts, caps, plugs, etc, and added a brake flush, some other little stuff, etc). Was about 1200 bucks. MY guy is not cheap, though. And jeez, is he slow. But he is careful.

Ultimately, I am going to learn to do it, myself.

I have a 97 C2. I don't think that the plugs are changed until 60k. They are platium. I think thats what the service manual states.

Please correct me if i"m wrong.

Porsche's recommended spark plug replacement is every 30,000 miles/48,000 km per the maintenance book.

Apart from a number of inspections & checks, reading codes, & lubrications, the recommended 30k service also includes:
- new plugs
- new air filter
- oil/filters changed
- new antipollen filters
- Tip ATF flush

W/o knowing exactly what your shop did, it's impossible to assess the reasonableness of its charges. The 30k service may include different things at different shops, especially since much is based on inspection results.

I would never trust a shop to change all the spark plugs. They could so easily leave the difficult one alone and you'd never know it. DIY, DIY and DIY. This stuff is easy and very affordable for the weekend mechanic. The receipts for my 30k miles service (PO paid for it) included stuff I KNOW was never touched.

If someone was to do the 30k mile themselves. What is a list of all of the things they should do?

Good question Track
Is it on P-car .com
that would be cool if there was a list and
then the DIY for each item.OR we could all
go to Ricks house, gas there and back would
be cheaper than doing it at the dealer!

Guys, anytime. I don't have a garage, but doing it in a cold parking lot at night just builds character. A few locals here have lifts in their garages and that's where I will be doing my 45k miles service. I'll probably pull the motor at that time, throw in the rs clutch and lwf and that will make new plugs and wires a very easy install. I don't need to do this for another 9k miles though. So maybe next summer.

One of the advantages of having a shop do the work is that you get better records.

I would not consider a receipt for oil and plugs to be the same as having a stamp from a dealer in the book.
