Cost for 30,000 mile service?

The local Porsche dealers here in the Bay Area quoted me $1750 for a 30K mile service on a Turbo which was less than what they charged for a NA car as there are more parts. Another Porsche dealer told me that they really no longer work on those older cars like the 993 unless they have to, and then the parts department also said that they do not stock parts anymore for the older models. Like NO parts that are not 996, Boxster, or now Cayenne..
For a 30K service I do (don't have my checklist with me so might forgot one or two items):
Spark Plugs
Distributor Cap and Rotor (2x for NA cars)
Oil / Filter Change
Replace Transmission Fluid (replacing the front diff fluid is not a bad idea on the Turbos and C4x but not required)
Belts - check power steering and distributor, replace the others
Pollen Filters
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Flush Brake Fluid
Bleed Clutch
Check Power Steering Fluid
Check brake pads and rotors
I also check for tighness of exhaust nuts, split boots on steering rack, and suspension arms.

My car just turned 45k and I will be servicing it myself. I just dont trust anyone else. Servicing the 993 is not that much different to any other car really.
I am typically guilty of over maintaining my cars. 993 parts are not that expensive other that the pollen filters
The down side is that my car (prior to me owning it) has had all dealer service and all stamps are up to date in the maintenance log. If and when I do sell this car, I will have to explain why the dealer service stopped once I bought the car...

The answer is that you don't. I used to think dealers knew what they were talking about, but that ended pretty quickly.
I guess it only really matters when it comes time to sell the car. And if were the potential buyer and you really cared about the car you were thinking of purchasing, then you'd do your own reaseach on what's involved in maintaince, etc.
With that information and education in hand, when you talked to the potential seller, you'd have a pretty good idea of whether he was comptent or not. But unfortunately, I think those kind of buyers are pretty few and far between.

I keep a very detailed log book of everything I do to my car, keep all parts receipts, usually have digital photos of the job and plenty of local witnesses. When I was selling my Carrera, I just directed folks to some links to my Pelican threads and they knew I did the work I said I did. Again, dealers can do or omit anything they want and you won't know it, at least for a while.
Look at this photo and tell me you wouldn't believe me if I said I replaced my ball cup bushing myself. Now ask a dealer to prove it when your shifter is as sloppy as when you left it there.

I did the 30K service on my 96 coupe myself. I swore I'd sell the car before it got to 45K. What a PITA! Mostly those stupid plugs. I did end up selling the car and the buyer was concerned that I had done the service correctly. I told him that it had been 1000 miles since I did the work and nothing had fallen off yet.
But I have heard as much as $1500 for the service, and when you figured that I had about $150 in parts, that's not a bad return on my time. And yes, I'd do it again now that I know how. The first time is always the toughest.

You guys sure about the SparkPlugs at 30K? I seem to remember that Porsche recommends replacement at 60K. Don't have access to the manual right now, though.
As for the rest of the stuff like oil/filter change, trans oil, air and pollen filters, and the like....all that stuff is so easy, I would hate to fork over hundreds of dollars for something I can do in the better part of an afternoon (and think of what you can do with all the $$ you just saved ).

I changed them at my 30K and will probably change them again every 15K miles if not sooner. Although I only have 6 to change and you NA guys have 12 to change..
For me, there was a noticable increase in throttle response after I changed my plugs.

My service guy bent over backwards for MONTHS before I even chose a car. He answered many emails and helped me research a potential purchase. He came highly recommended as well. He introduced me to the mechanic and he showed me everything, in detail, that was done to the car.
Do I trust him - yes.
Would I feel the same way about someone trying to get me to buy their car and only had store receipts....depends. There are some people here that can and do their own work and those people I would believe. Someone off the street...probably not.
I can strip a Jeep down to the frame and rebuild it piece by piece...but I chose to have the Porsche dealer do the service because I trust them to do the job properly. The stamp in the book was a nice bonus to the experience.
