Default Turbo Debate

I have two people with whom i'm acquainted who have a 993 Twin Turbo and a 996 Twin Turbo respectively. The 996 guy swears up and down that his is a better car, but the 993 guy says that the 993 is perfection and that the 996 is "too refined". Is it a matter of preference, or is one emperically a better performer? If so which is it? Notice I said acquaintences- i'd decide which is better for myself but neither are up for me personally administering the Pepsi Challenge. Incidentally, I'm selling my Roadster if anyone out there knows of someone in the market.

Who was a finer artist? Van Gogh or Rembrandt? They are both right. Each to his own.

Well, I just drove my second 996 tt today. I now have two friends that have them. I must say they are thrilling. Both are tips. And suprising enough are tons of fun to drive in the "M" position.

Very nice and very FAST. But for me. The MUST HAVE PORSCHE is a 993TT! Not even close IMO.

There's a long post on the 996TT board now that compares the 2 cars (993Tt vs 996 TT). I always say that there is no answer to the question of which is best, it's only "which is best for you?". Drive them both, you will know.

I love them both, but my eyes like the exterior of the 993TT much more. Just my opinion. My next Porsche will probably be a 996TT tip, as I only drive in gridlock local city traffic and I'm in my last stickshift, but that won't be for 10 years or so. I just love the look of the 993.

Good luck selling your car. It's obviously a beauty!

Having driven both it doesn't matter to me. A Porsche 911 turbo is a Porsche 911 turbo.

Now. Having raced both side by side (6spd 996TT with 13k miles v 6spd 993TT with 72k miles and Gemballa Exhaust) they are DEAD EQUAL.

Steve,

Get out of there and find an open road!!!

FWIW, the magazine road tests show the 993TT and 996TT to have virtually identical performance.

I have a 993 I have driven a 996TT Tip.. too numb
too isolated too... I dont know... luxurious?
it feels like a fast Licoln town car, not a sports car.
Plus the 993 is hands down a better looker.
996 is a different animal all together
I have also driven a 996 cab. same thing.
