Default When do you replace the engine mounts?

Guys, I have a set of new RS mounts sitting in the box. Before I do the job wondering how do I know when the engine mounts need to be replaced so I know to toss the old mounts or keep them in the used parts box.

I noticed that when I jack my car via the crankcase it raises about 3/8 inch. I know as that is the gap I have with my wide ovals and the bumper skin so that when I jack the car the tips don't kiss the skin.

Other than fluid oozing out (which they are not) any other symptoms?

Thanks

I knew my stock mounts were shot because my tips were sagging, and when I jacked the car up from the engine the tips hit my bumper opening. Probably 3/4-1" of travel.

Sure enough, one of the stock mounts had failed, and the center bolt was loose and spinning freely within the mount housing (which makes removal a PITA). When I installed my RS mounts, the tips barely move at all when jacking the car up. And it fixed some squirrelliness I was experiencing on the highway during lane changes and exits. It tightened everything up.

My reco - if you've already invested in the mounts, just install them and ditch the old stock mounts. There's no reason to preserve the old tired mounts - that's like saving your old tires. They're not valuable to re-use or to anyone else.

If you already have the RS mounts, I say don't wait....put 'em in. I noticed immediate difference .

Ya gotta ask the question, before buying the parts. Because once you have the parts, there's only one sensible solution. :-). Do it!!!!

Thanks guys. I was checking if I should just throw away the used mounts. The answer clear. Thanks!

I installed RS mounts at least ten years ago - no regrets. My stock mounts had less than 40k miles on them at that point.

As Snowbird says sagging tips are a good sign that your mounts are shot

Yep, go ahead and install the RS mounts now. The difference in handling and shifting for my car was remarkable.

The only downside I have noticed to the RS mounts is a bit of vibration/noise when the AC compressor kicks on. It's not a big deal to me. YMMV.

Thanks. Next on my list. Currently in the middle of suspension madness and the pleasure of cosmoline cleaning. Entire rear end getting refreshed with new RS/sport control arm bushings and solid subframe mounts.. My friends 993 has the same setup along with the RS motor mounts and I didn't mind the NVH...

For those who did the RS mounts, did you reinforce the engine tray too?

If you mean the engine carrier, no. But if my car saw track use, I'd probably weld in the Rennline brace.

I did not. My car will see primarily street use, and the occasional AX,
