My first Trackday in my 993
After attending many "corporate track-days" I finally took my 993 out around Silverstone on 17th November. I have just got back from a long business trip and the digital pics were waiting for me on cd-rom from a company in the Uk that attends these days.
The experience was awesome and I am definately going to do more, however my brakes and tyres did not cope well with more than 4 laps (silverstone is quite long). I also got a droning on certain hard left corners from my drivers side rear wheel/suspension (only when 2 or more laps in), could be a bearing going bad?
My brakes juddered badly after 2 laps as did the steering under heavy braking, none of this happens on the street, mind you I don't drive quite as hard on the street!
I rained heavily from 12.30 onwards so I packed up and went home (1 hour away).
Now what about an RS?

If you plan on doing more events, a thorough check of the brakes is in order. First, make sure there is plenty of brake pad left, as thin pads don't dissipate heat as well. Second, new brake fluid never hurts in efforts to fix brakes. Third, make sure your rotors are not warped, as this will cause the "juddering" you describe. For that, also check your tires. Badly chopped or worn tires can make weird noises under load. Finally, definately check the rear wheel bearing so you don't damage the hub.

I've had the right rear wheel bearing go out, and it wasn't really a droning sound, more of a, "thup, thup, thup", during hard left hand turns (Turn 5 Road Atlanta). I could even notice it on the audio portion of the video tape I made.

I'd like to add something to all the advises here above. Never forget to make a last lap at moderate speed to give the brake the opportunity to cool down before you make your pitstop. This should avoid warping your rotors.
Concerning the noise, when I drove my car on a trackday, I had a real bad noise which sound similar to a bearing problem. This was in fact caused by the rubber depôt accumulating on the tires. A few very tight 360 (clockwise then counter clockwise) on a concrete area behind the track cleaned them enough to suppress the noise...for just a few more laps.

Thanks for the response, interesting point re the tyres making the noise, I did do a slow in-lap, however as i didn't want to cook my brakes my in lap was at least one lap before everyone else (10min slots) and i had cars piling past me as i cruised in. When a stream of mini coopers flies past it is not good.
