Burmester in my 911 GTS sounds great so I was hoping for spectacular in the 24 Cayenne S I just bought. I figured with room for a proper subwoofer it would take it to another level. Definitely expected it to be as good or better than the AKG in my 21 Escalade. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The AKG was by and far the best stock system in any vehicle I’ve ever owned. It was truly on another level. I miss it (just the stereo - the Cayenne wins in every other department).
I feel like the Burmester in the Cayennes S doesn’t do a good job separating out frequencies to the various speakers. One thing I liked was the AKG had treble, bass and midrange adjustments which I feel made a big difference

I must admit to being a bit confused by some of the comments in this thread. If you buy an expensive sports car, why do you pay for insulated glass to keep you from hearing that great engine sound? I have a Targa, and the Bose plays loud enough to hear over the wind noise when I want music. Most of the time I want to hear the engine, and smell the beautiful redwood trees on my back road drives. These cars give such good sensory images every drive, if you want sound isolation and sound quality that is first rate spend your money on a room in your house with the best equipment you can afford.

Sound insulated glass reduces wind and other vehicle noise intruding into your space.

Wind noise and noise from other vehicles is not desirable. Engine noise is welcome. There is a Porsche for everyone. Some like the sound insulation, for others there is the GT3RS. YMMV. In quieter cars, the superior quality of Burmester can (perhaps) be appreciated better.

I don’t think you understand exactly what the noise insulated glass does. It actually enhances the engine noise in the cabin by reducing the outside wind a road noise. The engine noise you hear is inside the cabin. Even the GT3RS you reference has the lightweight noise insulated glass.

So just to be clear, you would rather have artificial engine noise pumped into the cabin than hear the actual engine? Doesn't everyone drive with the windows cracked in any weather to hear that great engine? All I have to do is open the Targa top and hear the real thing. The beautiful smell of the redwoods is an added bonus. Sounds like a lot of money wasted to me.
I can also roll the windows down if I want to. Again, you need to test it out for yourself. You obviously do not want to understand the benefit of the noise insulated glass. Doesn't your targa top cover the engine when opened up, therefore reducing the sound emanating from it? LOL.

While I do like listening to the engine as a point on its own, the other thing is that the engine sound provides me with needed feedback on my shifting. When I can’t hear the engine over the radio, shifting feels weird/off. I don’t like it.

Totally ignorant question here…is there any way to retrofit / install a Burmester system if you already have a Bose? If not, is there another recommendation for a better audio experience? New 2024 GTS in case it matters.
