Default Window defect recall

Haven't seen anyone here report this problem:

I don't think I'll bring my car in until I have a failure. Sometimes better to stick with the devil you know...

I think Bluehighways and ScottP have both reported on lightweight glass issues repaired under warranty.

Thumbs down

Porsche is recalling 8,101 units of its 911 series in the U.S. - Porsche plans to start reaching out to owners on April 26, and will ask them to return their cars to a nearby dealer. If necessary, both the front and rear windows will be replaced during this process. The new glass will undergo a modified cleaning procedure, incorporating pumice powder, to enhance adhesion to the vehicle.

🤦‍♂️👎👎

Thanks for posting that. I’ve had a slight whistle since new. However, the car scoops article says the recall only applies to the cars with lightweight glass. Mine has the standard glass. It’s a bit odd that this isn’t related to the faulty caulk, which I think plagues all the cars. But perhaps the article isn’t 100% accurate.

FYI, do not take it in for service and/or a warranty claim post the aforementioned date in late April. As soon as you do your service writer will adamantly state that they will have to perform the “safety recall” per PCNA.

The hits just keep on coming! Maybe us late production in 23’ got lucky and have cleaner glass. From the article I gather 8000 affected from 20-24 MY. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Fingers crossed. I actually took a rock to the windshield this week but no cracks. Maybe they started using a better product.

This begs a question whether some of us recently produced and sitting in port will be affected?!?!

That explains the cloudy glass in the T (which has lightweight glass).

cloudy how? Most new 911 glass is dirty or has residue regardless of lightweight.

I quote the Carscoops article:"The carmaker became aware of a potential safety concern in November 2023 when it received field reports of visibility issues in a 911. Upon further research, it discovered 15 warranty claims related to cloudy windshields and other “optical deficiencies.”

Through its investigation, Porsche determined that it’s possible that its supplier, Pilkington San Salvo, did not correctly carry out the cleaning process, leading to the windows not being manufactured to specification. Consequently, the lightweight glass in some 911s from the 2020 to 2024 model years may not have bonded correctly to the body."

I am the only one that is not terribly excited about this. I like having original glass. I remember back in the day with my 80's and 90's 911's it was common to have rust form around the windshield seals from installers that would chip the paint during the windshield removal. I'm sure this is not an issue at the dealership but the point is that left undisturbed is always better. I guess better to have it replaced though vs a safety issue. I have noticed that my glass is unusually cloudy (and not just off-gassing). I do have the lightweight glass.
