No, the blue painted trim. I thought it looked like that blue plastic film that comes usually covering stainless steel bits (like trunk lips).
Don't mind me. lol.

I am a Dodge fan and like keeping the yellow protective tape.

not arguing just asking.
Of course, the engine is very different. I suspect sound perception is sensitive to relative changes more than the exact frequency and amplitude.

I am comparing to my 992.1 GT3T.

How so? I would say it’s the way the tonality changes the last few hundred rpm before redline. The sound turns into a bit of a scream with intensity.

I have not driven other 992s other than the T and GT3T. I also suspect the sound is a bit unique in the T across the 3.0L engines.

More random musing,
  • For my use, the 7-speed is not necessary and crowds the gate spacing. Not a big deal though as I rarely use 5th even. The top of 4th is pretty silly speed. I think shorter final drive and tighter transmission ratios would make it an even more pure for driving engagement (of course, compromising on something else).
  • The doors take surprising high amount of force to close likely due to amazing sealing.
  • I like to always downshift into "the right gear" and I have noticed rev matching does not always activates going into 1st. I have not come up with a consistent procedure that reproduces this.
  • To me, I do think there is similarity to the GT3T sound quality. I felt a familiar tickle in my ears during my ~125 miles fun drive this morning (average ~10 mpg in mostly dry conditions).
The 992.1 T continues to impress and I am very much enjoying it. Then I had a duh moment (it has taken many cars and years!). I am slowly gaining wisdom and realizing I enjoy driving and it is less about the cars.

I felt the same way about 7th until I did 14hrs straight in the car. 7th is great for when you're done playing and just want to coast along in the freeway. It reduces cabin noise and increases consumption. I know these are not priorities but the cabin noise gets old at around the 4th hour in the mid to high rpm range. Less tiring than a GT3. More tiring than a pedestrian car.

As the owner of a 7.2 GT3, I agree on the noise. I find it perfect for a Carrera.

Funny what we learn with experience. My focus now is more on light weight and the necessariy amount of power.

Fully agree! I think the engine sound inside the car and the power delivery is awesome. It's possibly more fun on the street than my RS, but certainly not less, due to the manual gearbox. On the track, the RS scream close to redline was amazing, but you just can drive like that on the street.

I rarely do long commute on the freeway. If I do, I know I would appreciate the 7th gear. I suppose besides added weight, having the 7th gear doesn’t have much of a penalty.

Porsche deserves major kudos. Turbocharger sizing is perfect and the tuning is great for engaging. Sure, calibration can be done in a way to deliver higher torque in the lower rpm. IMO, that would take away from the character of the T.

Being able to experience the top end of the rpm range of the T makes it easier to enjoy maximally on the road.

Another pleasant surprise is the way the rev limiter is implemented. Trying to use all the rpm as frequently as I can, I do brush up against the rev limiter now and then. The implementation feels like a combination of timing retard, throttle opening reduction, and maybe bleeding boost off.

As a result, it’s gentle and it feels like the car says “I got ya but do better next time” in an encouraging way.

Your doors will relax in a few months and be easier to close without Godzilla amounts of push to ensure they latch and are 100% closed.

I surprised myself not wanting to rush and swap the exhaust and, more relevant to your comment, to tune. I never drive in normal mode and find sport mode to be absolutely perfect in terms of noise and power delivery. It sounds and feels very much like an NA. I don't know how you can get any closer. Major kudos indeed.

True, the redline not an abrupt and immediate cutoff in power. I like that you can get it a little sideways too, but nothing too crazy.

Glad to hear that you like it! How's it compared to 991.2t(if you have driven it) I'm a bit underwhelmed by 1.2 t but hearing good things on 992. Also how's the base brake, do you feel them lacking on extended spirited driving?

I have not driven a 991.2 T but had a 991.2 GTS C2 Coupe. Of course, the GTS was more powerful. Overall, I like the power delivery of the 992.1 T and sound more. On the streets, I am pretty tough on brakes (my 718 T went through 2 sets of factory brake pads in ~5500 street miles). I would say the base brakes are fine and there is always AP RadiCAL if needed. I also think the 7-speed is a bit better in the 992.1.
