Why???

The only way they will beat you is if they have a higher spec 911 (TT vs S for example). And if they do, what does it prove, the TT is faster than an S?

If it’s the same spec as yours (TT vs TT for example), they won’t beat you, unless the driver weighs less than you do.

I really don’t get the point of this behavior????

Why do you think they do this? How old are these people?

Because it's fun? I have no problem with people wanting to race. It's just interesting to see how you stack up against another similar car. Besides, our cars are not all identical. I have a manual 992S that's tuned. It's highly unlikely for me to meet up with another 992 in the exact same spec. They're all mid 40s and older... people who can afford a newish 992.

Also, every single GT3 of any vintage I line up with will try to race me as well. I pulled on a shark blue 992 GT3 on the fwy. I'm sure they were surprised.

While driving the 62' 356 Cab to Monterey to put a deposit on a new 24' C2S I had a pickup passing me while the passenger was videoing the 356 driving down highway 1, I got a thumbs up! That car can't compete in any race unless it's extremely curvy. So much fun! I do notice new 992's more that I have one on it's way. While driving the 356, I do acknowledge other Porsche's especially 356's, 911's and 718's not so much the SUV types..

While I have sedate blue and black for my sports cars, I rarely (a few times a year) get any attention when driving either the 992 or 993, other than from other 911 drivers. I like that. Gas stations will attract a random "nice car" comment - my response is "a mid-life crisis is a great thing". I think the 993 looks so modern to anyone who doesn't know what it is - that they just presume its another Porsche. Again, I like that, a ~30 year old modern shape.

My (beater) 968 on the other hand gets more thumbs up and offers to purchase than either 911 - and it's in the worst condition of all 3. The shape must be so different from the 911 shape that people see it.

The bright colors get attention, but the more sedate colors don't seem to get a lot of notice. So many different versions of 911's running around and the average person doesn't know the difference between models. Agree with others that it is a conversation starter at the gas station. Also, the number one cars that trr to "race" me are Teslas. Without fail.

You should expect to be focusing less on what other people are doing, and more on
how good the car is, and how you plan to pass the car ahead of you.

Once you connect with how the car drives, that will be all that matters.

Old men and young boys have the exact same reaction. Everyone else in between couldn't care less.

Most Porsches blend into the background unless you get a GT3RS with everything sticking out or run it like my 911. Golded out.

Younger guys in Tesla Model S Plaids and Uber drivers in Model 3s will try and race you. So will Corvettes, M3/M5, Audi RS (mainly RS5s), Dodge SRTs and other 992s.

Try not to take the bait, especially if you're in town.

NY has some of the most collectable and sought after 911s made. they are just in collection garages man.

did you buy the car to get reactions? if so, you should have gotten something different. most people are too busy with themselves to give two ****s what you drive. having said that, tesla owners out there tend to be the ones to watch out for on the road.

Where I live they are nothing special and can't say i have gotten any attention whatsoever in the 911. Even the two Ferraris i have rarely get that much attention frankly. I think more and more people, especially younger people, don't care at all about cars.

@detansinn - I live in lower Bucks county also closer to New Hope. Although we live in an affluent area I see few 911s. Actually see more Bentleys than 911s. However, if I see your car I will certainly waive. Mine is a 2024 Aventurine Green 4S Cab with a brown top. Say hello if you see me. Wish the weather was better.........only have a few miles on it so far.

@shogubade - When I drove my Wrangler other fellow Wrangler drivers normally waive or raise their fingers off the steering wheel. It's a thing..... I also have a Volvo C30 (of which there are few on the road) that I use to take to urban places where I don't really care what happens and I never get a waive from the few C30s I see. Don't get waives from other Land Rover drivers or F-150 drivers (to be expected). I think if I passed another 911 while driving mine it would be appropriate to waive but I haven't passed one yet other than at the dealer.
