One of the (many) reasons I sold my R8 was kids would constantly race up from behind to see it and then usually linger in the blind spot to the right to check out the motor view. Also encountered a few bizarre road rage events when I drove it quickly. Basically it attracted way more attention than I was looking for in most situations.
In my Carrera I get the occasional admiring glance and when someone is lingering along side I can actually see them!
OP, I live in St. Louis and the 911 is rare here too (I see maybe 1 a month, if that), and I still don’t get much attention.
But that’s not to say it never happens.
I was driving through Nashville on a highway last night, and the car in front of me suddenly slowed to like 10 to 15 under the speed limit.
I couldn’t see any reason, so I changed lanes to go around. And as I passed, I heard them yell something at me. Worried that they saw something wrong with my car that I couldn’t see from the inside, I slowed to get along side them and rolled my passenger window down. They yelled again, but this time I could hear them.
“Hey, will you pull over so we can take a picture with your car?”
I declined. Not only did I not want to, but there was also a possibility it was a ruse for some other intention.
Every time I take my car out, I get a compliment whether it is when I'm stuck in traffic or when I just get out of my car after parking it.
"That is one beautiful car!" seems to be the prevailing compliment. Enjoy!
@detansinn - I live in lower Bucks county also closer to New Hope. Although we live in an affluent area I see few 911s. Actually see more Bentleys than 911s. However, if I see your car I will certainly waive. Mine is a 2024 Aventurine Green 4S Cab with a brown top. Say hello if you see me. Wish the weather was better.........only have a few miles on it so far.
I am hoping that it rains hard and washes the salt away so that I can be out on Saturday. Aventurine Green is a great color — my 992 C4S was AG.
PM me. Always happy to grab a coffee with fellow local and local-ish enthusiasts.
Because it's fun? I have no problem with people wanting to race. It's just interesting to see how you stack up against another similar car. Besides, our cars are not all identical. I have a manual 992S that's tuned. It's highly unlikely for me to meet up with another 992 in the exact same spec. They're all mid 40s and older... people who can afford a newish 992.
Also, every single GT3 of any vintage I line up with will try to race me as well. I pulled on a shark blue 992 GT3 on the fwy. I'm sure they were surprised.
I hope you realize that when you race on the street, if the other guy is reckless and hits someone you are also held responsible.
I get the most attention from the 14 - 18 year old boys in my neighborhood and at the bus stop. They are always checking it out and giving me a thumbs up during drive-bys. I let them sit in it and encourage their interest in sports cars. They daydream during algebra class just like I did.
