992.2 delayed.
Don't know of the reasons, only that the unveil will be delayed most likely to early next year.
Thought I'd give you guys a sneak bit of info.
I don't know anything else about the 911 for sure.
You can trust this or not, if I get more info that I'm able to share I will.
992.1 is selling quite well as of now, and there is no big fall in demand. VW's goal will be to produce more than 50K 911 units this year and meeting the demand at highest price points possible.
By prematurely moving towards 992.2, VW would only compress its profit margins by spending new Euros for retooling Zuffenhausen. There is no direct competition to 911 models in the world today. There is no urgency to change 911 designs.
By stretching the facelift cycle, VW gets to hold the fort in profitability while figuring out how to dig itself out of the total failures of ID.4, Taos, Atlas, and other models that consumers have shunned in Red China and the US. Personally, I think VW will fail to dig itself out of the hole, and 911 profits won't be enough to save VW in the sea of total market share collapse of VW in China, and continued market share grab failures in North America.
In any case, Porsche is safe still, even if VW collapses.

I know others have been in the buy or wait thought process. I'm glad I took the 24 allocation and am already enjoying the car so I"m not hanging on every bit of news like this like I did with some prior cars I bought.
I think it makes sense for VW to instruct its Porsche subordinates to forgo the 994 generation entirely. VW prides itself in cost cutting at all costs (i.e. Jetta's plastic interiors), and obviously, skipping the 994 ICE generation entirely is a low-hanging fruit for holding VW's profitability.

In addition, it will take a while (many months or more) until reaching full efficiency and peak production volumes from the assembly line after such changes, which is also additional loss of profit for Volkswagen, compared to increasing production volumes of 992.1 for another year.
I think the production volume of 992.1 may reach 60K+ this year. They will use extra shifts, if necessary, at Zuffenhausen. Increasing production volume of the existing 992.1 from the assembly line (with little to no change) is VW's low-hanging fruit to offset the ID.3/4 disaster and BYD eating VW's lunch in Red China.

Cayenne E-hybrids are getting stuck in port, and I'm sure the Panamera hybrids will be stuck as well.
Last thing you want is the pride and joy getting stuck for several months.
I wish I had more information.
