Default how to work around lack of AUX IN port

I have to admit that I have an addiction. I am addicted to listening to podcasts and I get withdrawal symptoms if I can't listen to them while driving, in the gym, working in the garage or while doing chores around the house. For many years, I've had a cheap and tiny MP3 player that I load my podcasts onto and then listen to no matter where I am and what I am doing. Using this MP3 player that I can easily take from location to location makes it easy to keep my place in the podcasts.

My prior car had an AUX IN port and all I had to do to play the podcasts from the MP3 player over the car audio system was run an 3.5 mm audio cable from the MP3 player to the AUX IN port of the car.

My 992 doesn't have an AUX IN port and I've been searching alternatives:

- Plugging the MP3 player into the USB jack allows me to play the podcasts from the player, but it doesn't keep my place in the podcasts when I take the MP3 player out of the car.

- I've tried a couple of Bluetooth transmitters from Amazon -- these plug into the 3.5mm jack of the MP3 player and are supposed to transmit the MP3 player's signal over Bluetooth. However, the 992 never saw the Bluetooth transmitter's signals and I was not able to pair the players to the car.

- I've found some Bluetooth 5.0 enabled MP3 players on Amazon, but almost all of the note that they don't work with car audio systems.

I could just use my mobile phone to play the MP3 players, but it is too large to carry while running and I don't want to be dragging something that expensive around while I'm puttering around in the garage.

Have any of you all found a solution for getting the audio signal from an MP3 player into an 992's audio system?

I know my several generations old Garmin fitness tracking watch has an MP3 player and bluetooth.

I don't know if you have considered or looked into using a smartwatch for this purpose, but it might be worth checking into.

Isn’t the USB port in the armrest streamable? Just copy all your music to a USB stick…easy.

This has got to be a fake question.

Bet you wish there was a CD player too.

Have you tried a headphone jack to FM transmitter adapter? Like
this one this one
, perhaps? Very old school, but can be effective.

Any smartphone is better at hosting and playing podcasts than any MP3 player and is infinitely better at connecting to the car wirelessly with carplay or android auto. I don't get why you'd want to use an MP3 player, and TBH haven't actually seen anyone using one in years.

Why not retire your mp3 player and just use your phone to keep your podcasts? And than just use wireless and whatever app you choose for streaming from your phone. It should start auomatically when you get into the car, and remember what was played last time

I like the larger phones, and I struggled with not wanting to run with them too. I caved in years ago though, and just started strapping it to my arm for runs.

Because a phone is too big to carry around apparently.

But he's not carrying it when in the car and it should be with him anyway. I don't get the OP's question at all.

I would just use the phone in the car with carplay and get an apple watch with cell for running (leave phone at home). It's what I do and works perfectly.

Dude, it makes more sense to plug your Zune into your computer, manually load podcasts, carry around your 3.5mm cable, go in your car, plug the cable in.

The OP already made it clear why they don't use a phone. Yes, the OP is doing things in a way that we might personally not but we should be more accommodating and not keep harping on it. IMO in this forum we spend too much time arguing with the posters or diverting the point of the OP's thread vs. solving what they asked for.

yeah. No. He didn’t make it clear at all. What doesn’t running have to do with the aux port in a 992? Two different scenarios and cases.

OP made it perfectly clear. They want to pick up where they left off on their podcasts which happens when they use their player consistently across activities. Using different players for different activities breaks that for them.
