Base Carrera owners. Do you ever regret not getting the S?

The base engine with the smaller turbos rev out a little more like a NA engine versus the S or GTS with the larger turbos. The base car is plenty of power for everyday driving and the S is marginally quicker. Some people forgo the base model because the lack of manual or rear diff but if you're not looking for those options in particular then those are all moot points. There are so many 911 variants, you always will want the next variant up unless you can score an S/T allocation so get what's in your budget and enjoy

Burning Brakes
The base model rear wheel drive with a manual, is a lot more involving than the more powerful S. You still have plenty of power and get to row the gears
more to give the car umph. To many, the base model is the best of the 992 lineup.

Going from 991.2 Targa 4 , to 992 Targa 4S (both manual).
When I had the base, I felt like I would prefer the S. Now that I have the S I think maybe the 991.2 base was a touch more fun, and now I think I could go with either. The 992 4S does noticably feel faster and feels like you can pull ahead of any other car, and in low revs. The 991.2 base I could rev to red line every so often - but on the 992 4S I can almost never get to red line as it's too fast in every day driving.

C4 owner here. I often wonder what S and Turbo owners do with the extra power. The base engine can get you in trouble quickly.
That said, my factor was keeping the cost down. To me this is a toy, justifying more cost was tougher in my head.
All said, unless I was tracking, I'm not sure what I'd do with more power. I don't feel like I can use all I already have.

Yes. Traded in for a GTS.

I have base. T is sweet spot
the PTV AND rear axil is the missing part with base
bigger brakes and more hp with more turbo lag is nothing you’d miss.
the new naturally aspired 3.6 engine on 2025 will be a whole different discussion

2025 Engines
To stay on point, took European Delivery of a 2024 Carrera, and a S was never considered, given the features and options available on the Carrera; there was not a gain IMHO for a street driven Porsche.

Nope, I would not drive my '24 T any faster or brake harder on the the street if it had the S power and brakes.
Even my base+ poverty-spec is plenty fast...

I think most/many would pick the S if at the same price or $delta would be smaller or availability would have been better. I come from higher torque cars like a tuned AMG 63s and all Carreras and GT3 feels slow down low compared to the torque M177/178 engines from AMG. Base is nice to handle and fun around curves, small turbo's are pretty responsive at lower RPM (but don't press you in your seat) but run a little out of power at higher RPM. For me, who does not street race or track race or wants to break some 1/4 mile times, the base fits well for my use. S would be pretty much the same - no real pro/contra. I modify my car's and most things I wanted to do I would have done to the S or GTS too. Comment about too much power - there is no such thing as too much power (at least until you get into the 1000whp area where its hard to get any traction if you just look at the gas pedal). Last word: tuning the small base turbo sounds enticing....really good powergains and retaining the responsiveness of the smaller turbo's. Btw, I think tuning the 992.2 Base will be a hoot - already has the large turbo's and intercoolers from the 992.1 Turbo. Plenty of power to unleash.

I will forever question whether those who say the Base isn’t fast enough are actually pushing the accelerator all the way to the floor and holding it there. I do and have many times and have never thought to myself, this thing needs to be faster. I found out today on a mountain road that the rev limiter in third gear kicks in at 95mph.

Just picked up my base a month ago, couldn’t be happier. Last two cars were 86 Turbo and an 08 4S, The amount of power the base has is unbelievable. Not sure why I would ever need 445 or more horsepower. Loving this car
