I know Porsche is trying to move upmarket like Range Rover but no way it’s a $40,000 increase at once. I’d guess 8-10% raise at launch and probably another increase midway thru the model year.

That company cannot even make its own engines and their high product lines are less than midway to the 911 range. They have used Ford engines in the past and now BMW for their 8 cylinder models. From a prestigious company (like Jaguar) it has turned into a company that relies on other manufacturers's parts bin to build something. They produce nothing that cannot be challenged by other manufacturers, unlike 911 which is an undisputed a category leader.
Agree with your price increase comment though.

Range Rover? Upmarket? This must be a joke!

But I was talking about how they keep raising prices on the Range Rovers to move the car upmarket. A supercharged Range Rover is well over $140,000 now. 911 prices will keep going up too. A moderately optioned Carrera S will be $200,000 before long.

I'm not hating the 992.2. But think the classic clean lines of the 992.1 are going to be time less and a tough act to follow. Simlar to the mid to late 80's 911.

The 991.2 cars are substantially quicker than the 991.1 cars. Porsche also made marked improvements to the EPAS in the 991.2. With those improvements and other changes, a 991.2 is dynamically a better car than the 991.1 -- it's better sorted AND more powerful. Add in creature comforts like CarPlay and details like a modern steering wheel that Porsche still uses today, the used 991.2 cars deserve their premium over the 991.1.
Not every Porsche NA engine is a gem like the GT3. Honestly, for me, the obsession with NA cars is simply bizarre. For driving on the street, turbos all day, any day, because you get more grunt off the line and power where you can actually use it. If NA, sky high revs, and a manual transmission are your priorities -- and you can't afford a GT3 -- that's what motorcycles are for. Yeah, if you want to go fast and have a truly visceral experience, two wheels is the answer.
...but I digress.
Hybridization will make the 992.2 Carrera the fastest Carrera that Porsche ever made. It will be STOUT with that electric power eliminating any turbo lag from the driving experience. It will still make the noises, but when you need to, you'll be able to pull out silently out of the driveway/neighborhood for that Sunday drive. It's going to be awesome and all of these "sky is falling" posts will look quaint when the car actually lands.

And I always seem to prefer original designs to facelifts, regardless of brand or model; almost always change just for the sake of change, as opposed to a clean, original design.

I remember when the BMW E38 came out, Car & Driver wrote that the car had become basically a Cadillac. Today that car is the most revered of the 7 series. The 750iL I owned was one of the best cars I ever had. When the E36 and E46 came out, same thing. Especially on the E46 nothing but crapping on its "horrible" steering. Porsche 964 is another example. Nothing but criticism. All unfounded. Such is the world.
They were right about E46 steering, too...it was a step backwards compared to the E36...had both in M3 form, and the E36's was sensational. E46's was meh. And I do not understand the current adoration for the 964...drove a few back when they were new, and did not like any of them, especially the Carrera 4. Drove like a front wheel drive car, with massive understeer and the feeling of being pulled through a turn. Yet one went unsold last week at $175k on BaT.

They were right...but it was Lexus, not Cadillac. Lexus was stealing lunch money from the Germans, and the E38 was BMW's first solid hit back at them. It was and still is a great luxury car, but not the sport sedan all BMWs once had been. I believe journalists considered all forgiven with the E39...

This is a render, but if it ends up being true, I actually think this looks better than the 992.1 GT3.
