'23 Dakar just sold on BaT for $405K! I don't get it

I would get more satisfaction modifying a 992 gts to something similiar (with manual trans ofcourse).

I own a Dakar and drive it all the time. I take it to work, drive it off-road on dirt/gravel roads and I take it through machine car washes when its covered in dirt and mud. It's an amazing car and extremely fun to drive. The car has lower limits due to the height and tires so its easier to slide around at a reduced speed. In addition, the low down torque and grunt from the vehicle is intoxicating. It's unfair to judge it without driving it. I'm hoping Porsche will print these in the future at a reduced value so more people can enjoy them.
In addition, I think the Dakar is so fun and versatile that it's the last Porsche I would sell out of the five I have.

Borderdog, that’s a pretty good testimonial! Myself, I think one would be a blast to drive like any Porsche, and a little higher off the ground would make it easier to get in and out of, which at my age is more important than quarter mile times.
i do however, think the larger issues with Dakars in most people’s minds is beating the car up with rock chips and the like due to its price. Half the people on Rennlist have to put plastic over their paint jobs or they can’t even drive them!

I've already taken it on a gravel road (w/only 660 miles on the odo) and find it the most comfortable 911 I've driven in years.
The 8-speed PDK has a very long (overdrive?) 8th gear which turns in 30 mpg cruising at 70-80 mph.
What's not to like???
As delivered @ dealer

Great to hear this review from you, @W8MM . Your contribution to our collective hobby has been remarkable, and all of us "customers" can thank you. I see from the signature that your current Porsche inventory is something real special. An Unterberg ST....and Meteor on the 918. Wow. I had a Meteor 997.1 Turbo and that is a super color. Best wishes.

So true. Someone with a hugely overweigh purple targa with carbon brakes insulting other people's cars. Often cited as the worst handling 911. Typical.
I remember when car communities were where like mind enthusiasts could share their love for cars and people didn't draw so much hate and negativity. No one is making others buy it or even like it.
Now the internet is where some people go to make sure everyone in the world knows exactly what they hate and why others are idiots for their choices. Does it make them feel better about themselves for insulting others pride and joy?

Hey W8MM, did you get a good look at the underbody kit? I'm curious how much of an upgrade it is. I love the mud flaps. I think they might be the first mud flaps Porsche has made. My Macan took a beating until I put some poor fitting after market ones on.
People ask who the Dakar is for but to me it's for people who have had Caymans, Macans, GT3's, RS's, and are looking for something different from Porsche. I was late with my timing unfortunately so I don't think my order is going to happen. I hope more people post pictures and videos.

Here are som web links: https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...akarunder.html
And https://tequipment-finder.porsche.co...2588F60050AF1E
I didn't see it during installation. The dealer techs told me it looked like some sort of plastic or composite material for the underbody piece.
Here's the description from Porsche:
The reinforced three-part underbody trim replaces the standard underbody. It consists of a special fiber-reinforced material that is even more robust and protects the 911 Dakar even better from stone impact and possible damage during contact.

This is because of the wacky resale market, people think they can buy these limited edition variants and they will make money when they flip it. It is the same thing at Ferrari dealerships, people are lining up to buy 812 GTS with dealer requirements of options spending (they're not allowed to charge ADM) that put the sticker prices close to 600K...historically these V12 front engine models have had big initial depreciation.
You just love putting words in people's mouths don't you? The one person who seems to love posting screenshots of reviews is you pal. I've never done that. One mention that the Dakar is based on a 4 GTS does not make the Dakar a GTS as you said. The only reason anyone would draw similarities between the Dakar and the GTS is because it uses the larger turbos from the S/GTS and because it has the same power (due to factory tune) as the GTS. What makes the Dakar a Dakar is mostly the suspension and that is in no way whatsoever similar to that of the GTS.
You've mentioned that some say the T is basically a Sports Classic. Most of my time on the 992 sub is spent in the T thread and I have never seen anyone post that the T is basically a Sports Classic. Rather than assume is just BS on your part to support your nonsense arguments, it would be great if you can please direct us all to all the posts that you've seen where such comparison is made. Comedy indeed.
