2500 made, according to you 25 will only see dirt? i think with just the pics here and the ones used at porsche facilities you are at least 100 different ones being used as intended. i think 5-10% will sit in garages and not be used.

Absolutely agree. The Dakar I saw in the dealer car park recently looked like some home modified shed built piece of junk that a nerd with a beard had built for a bit of attention. Awful thing. Some idiots will buy anything that’s produced in limited numbers though. No mug like a rich mug lol.

Porsche sold the 2,500 units it made so quickly, I couldn't get my hands on one. Now that the Dakar concept is proven, PAG is introducing a similar model to the lineup the same way the GT3T was introduced after the 911R. If there are any idiots, they're the ones that don't get the Dakar.
But I do wonder when the "Dakar" becomes either an option or a regular production trim whether it will hold the same appeal among hoi polloi.

I remember when car communities were where like mind enthusiasts could share their love for cars and people didn't draw so much hate and negativity. No one is making others buy it or even like it.
Now the internet is where some people go to make sure everyone in the world knows exactly what they hate and why others are idiots for their choices. Does it make them feel better about themselves for insulting others pride and joy?

To be clear, there's a long held historic tradition of the Porsche faithful hating anything new. Heck, 356 enthusiasts revolted against the 911, declaring it too heavy and the end of the brand.

Remains to be seen. At this point, PAG hasn't missed a beat as far as 911 variants are concerned. Not one model is disliked enough to sit on dealer lots. Could be a demand/supply issue but I don't think so.

While there are some true haters out there, I for one don't hate it it just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe if I had F-you money then I would have it as a dune buggy but alas, I did not win the $2B lottery nor did I play.
I also am not sure about Porsche's ability to keep launching limited run vehicles at this scale and have them all be special. At some point I think we will hit saturation and some of these cars will not continue to appreciate. I don't know if the Dakar will be worth $800k+ in five years accounting for inflation. I could be wrong and perhaps Porsche will continue printing money but I think either the market will saturate on its own or there will be some other game in town that people want to throw money at (Ferrari limited run of manuals anyone?).
Either way, those who are buying them to enjoy and drive, congrats. Those who want to lock them up and flip them in a few years and continue to drive the bubble... I hope a Dakar does a nice gravel burnout on your "investment".

I love the Dakar (GT Silver, no stickers, graphics, or stripes please). I'd enjoy using it as a car for winter travels more than true off roading. Might be fun to take camping too. Ground clearance and tires with deeper sidewalls are key in both circumstances. But not at $400K. I don't have $400K to splash out on a car so don't feel I'm in a position to say whether I actually would if funds permitted.

This is because of the wacky resale market, people think they can buy these limited edition variants and they will make money when they flip it. It is the same thing at Ferrari dealerships, people are lining up to buy 812 GTS with dealer requirements of options spending (they're not allowed to charge ADM) that put the sticker prices close to 600K...historically these V12 front engine models have had big initial depreciation.
