Have you tried buying a Honda lately!? Bought my wife's mother a new CR-V and was able to NEGOTIATE sticker. Type R you will be 15-20% over MSRP.

I used to walk into the dealership they’d all greet me; “Hey Norm!” I’d saddle up to the exclusive manufacturer design table with a frosty mug of kolsch. None of this allocation, ADM BS. Only talk about Porsche cars and the Red Sox. Simpler times.

Coming from a Ferrari, the snobbery was incredible, and I sense it sneaking in here, and may be why some people don't like Porsche owners. I was at a gas station some years ago in my Ferrari when a SUV pulled up and a little boy jumped out and ran over to my car, peering into the driver's side. I hung up the gas gun and swung around asking him if he wanted to look inside. His eyes lite up and as he was getting in his dad came around and asked his son to get out. I said it was ok, I don't mind. His son crawled around and checked out the car, and then I took him for a short ride.
When I got back, he took some pics with his dad then his dad handed me his business card. He asked if I golfed, and I replied not very often. He offered me a free golf lesson and 18 holes. I read the name, didn't think anything of it. Went to my brother in-laws who is a scratch golfer and member of a few golf clubs, oil money. And he freaked out, the guy was on tour, he was a professional golfer. I remember him saying that he wishes more people that owned sports cars were like me. I also volunteered for a Ferrari run for kids with disabilities, I ripped two tires to shreds taking kids around the speedway.

exactly, I have been in the waitlist for a year now and I have told my dealer I want my car with PTS, they have reached to Porsche Canada and told me there will not be PTS as this moment and they are not sure when PTS will be available. Their estimated time is next year but nobody knows.

5 years is a long time. The dealer will press the “filter” button and know exactly how much profit they have made from your purchases. If you’re not on top, you’re no longer VIP.
One client paying $100k ADM for a 911 negates your 21 car buying history (assuming you got discounts and deals in the past vs paying MSRP).
As an owner of dealer, you want to make money. With ADM, less people can buy. With discounts, more people can buy making it difficult to get a car. Porsche will always make one less 911 than people want, so they will be just fine if you quit the brand.

Along with all this supply chain stuff, I think the gravitation toward large dealer chains (Penske, Hendrick etc) has caused some of the lower tier tactics to seep into the luxury dealerships. Part of what I felt I was paying for besides a really nice car was a no BS, no hassle experience. That's all gone now.

I called a dealer that I put an order for a GTS 4.0 to say I was now looking at a 992 S. He said that there is a long list for S but he can offer a 4S (just had a cancellation) - would be delivered in March 2024. Looks like 4S has a shorter list since he offered it to me and I wasn't even looking for one. Hard to figure out.

I am torn between a 2020 S low mileage with the color (ext & int) and options I would choose (has a bit more) and a new 4S.
I would never drive it in the winter or track it so don't need the 4wd.
Difference of $50-60k so would save around 25% taking the 2020 (I guess that is the depreciation).

I've made money on cars in the past, but one was speculation because the dealer (not Porsche) told me they'd buy it the moment it hit the US, and he did. Winning. The second one I kept. That said, I am not looking to make money on the car, that's not what it's for, obviously. I just don't want to get hosed walking in the door, because getting out of it is never pretty. I heard the dealer low balling a guy on his C4S today, stating the market was not as strong as is used to be etc. I was like, really? Which is it? It's just profit. So IMO, I'll order and buy at MSRP, no worries.
I have bought 19 cars from the dealership, so I have some pretty favorable leverage which I have successfully used before to acquire other cars for family etc. So I can pull it, just don't want to go in with an inaccurate perspective on the market. This helps. TY
