Default 992 T Base Audio System Upgrade Topic

Since Bose was not available on the new 992 Carrera T many of us are looking for other options to upgrade the base audio system for a reasonable price. So far there is not much news. I have an appointment next week with the guys from Clanck but they are in the Netherlands. But sharing knowledge is always good. Especially about upgrading the amp or just adding a sub. Can’t wait to see the first results.

Also @12v Nick was looking for somebody on the West coast? https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1344...io-system.html

We finally secured our development car for the Base Audio!!!

It's coming in next week and we'll know a lot more come the middle of this month. If all goes as planned, we'll have Stages 1-3 available for pre-order by the first of July!

I'll probably start a thread just for the info on the development process. Stay tuned for that.

Thanks for starting this. I’m interested in seeing what people come up with. I have some ideas but I need a car first.

My car is coming in late July allegedly. I just rented a 992 last weekend to get a feel for the car and it had Bose. I'm upset that I'm getting something worse than that. I am interested in an upgrade as well

Re-submitting the Focal post in this Audio thread in case it proves useful to anyone looking to upgrade their audio system.
I also have tech spec for the components should anyone need them.

Audio Upgrade - Update!!

Focal P-60 Speaker Set for 911 (992) Ltd Edition

Sadly I’ve taken the Focal kit back for a refund.

Following numerous calls to car audio companies re installation, I was getting the same response from all.
These speakers are absolutely superb, but with the base Porsche amplifier you’re wasting your time and money. It’s like trying to run a F1 car with a Mini’s engine.
So finally I swapped numerous messages with Focal UK and he said that just assumed buyers would upgrade the amp at the same time and he recommended a couple of Focal amps starting at £800.

All this plus installation and suddenly I’m looking at £5.5k ($6.5k) in total! I love my music but can’t justify that!!

So here’s the thing, if you’ve got that kind of money to spend on upgrading the sound, you MUST go for this set. Focal are known for their high end audio products, (they sell headphones for £30k) so the quality is there and they are amazing value for money. Individually you’d pay around £8k for the 7 speakers.

So back to the drawing board for me.
I’ll happily go to £1.5k maybe £2k ($2.5k) but that’s about my limit!

Did you install them? If so, how did they sound?

No - didn’t get as far as installing them.
I was in doubt about buying them because I’d heard diff stories about the base Porsche amplifier and wasn’t sure if the speakers alone would make a difference.
Then I spotted a dealer with a one day 10% discount so bought them thinking I could get refund if….
Then I swapped emails with Focal HQ, and that’s when I discovered it was pointless buying these fabulous speakers without upgrading the amp.
Adding the cost of the amp and installation and suddenly I’m up to the price of a Burmester and a Bose COMBINED!!
Thats way too much.
So got the refund.
The dealer has quoted me for cheaper Focal speakers and amp, but I’m still thinking on it.
I’m open to ideas

@12v Nick I know you are still working on the package and I'm not asking for pricing. But do you expect it to more/less simple and more/less expensive than upgrading the Bose system?

Good point @VarTheVar

It would be good to have base upgrade to Bose level, with $1000 target as that is the price of Bose on 911

Then for the enthusiasts audiophile, high-end version.

@12v Nick is that something you would consider?

For those who have yet to lock your orders and/or deciding on Stereo options, I have Bose in my Taycan and Burmester in my Carrera T, and the difference in sound is quite marked. While previously I thought Bose was fine, compared to Burmester it lacks depth and is very light in regards to full Bass. With Bose I have to use Surround Sound, otherwise too light and tinny, with Burmester I use Pure, it really is a marked upgrade and if you are going to the trouble of aftermarket I would try and get as close to that sound as possible, it will be worth the few thousand extra you throw in that car. As for the car being too noisy to enjoy the music I find this not to be the case. I drive in Sports mode with the PSE engaged, I get to hear great music and the sound of the engine at the same time. Upgrade is worth it.

That's actually not what I was suggesting. In fact, I don't think it's worth upgrading from base to Bose if you're tearing into the interior and/or paying for labor, which most people will be doing

My question was mostly about the level of componentry that's needed because Bose has a different style of communicating with the speakers from what I understand. I was just hoping that it would be naturally, maybe less expensive, maybe it has less speakers. Maybe the amplifier is more simple. I'm not sure how this all works. I'm talking about the stage 3 version BTW.

Yes - I agree on the Bose, I had it in the Taycan and in spite (or because?) the car was so quiet I noticed it’s drawbacks. I also like a good bass.
I really wish I’d specced the Burmester!!
Had I been aware of how poor the base system was and that the Bose would be deleted from my order I would 100% have dug a bit deeper and got the Burmester.

The Burmester is a perceptible step up from the Bose. If you like to listen music, it is worth it.
