Thoughts on Porsche Extended Warranty
I have my local dealer wiling to sell me the "Porsche" branded extended warranty Platinum level 5 years additional and 60,000 total miles for $5800 with the $100 disappearing deductible, I'm currently at 25K and will hit 4 years in Dec 2023.. What do you all think? Money well spent? I mean one major break down and it pays itself off..

I'm looking forward to reading the responses on this. Lots of folks here recommend Fidelity extended warranties — see for example this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...arranties.html

This is it?
https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessor...ctionplan/vsp/
Seems like a fair deal if it takes you to 9 years, although I guess the 60,000 miles could be a little light on if you use the car more over that time than you have to date. Is it backed by Porsche themselves though, or a 3rd party?

I have a 2020 C2S I bought new and the factory warranty expires in 1 year. The quote from my dealer for VSA is in my inbox and I’m thinking about pulling the trigger. While I have had few problems - if there is something that goes bad wrong I would hate to spend $5K for new electronics (PDCC, RAS,…).
I would also like to switch from a PDK to a manual - so when the 992.2 is released I might jump on the waitlist and trade mine in, for which the VSA is proratable and refundable. This is off course binding me into the dealer and Porsche but I’m okay with that.
For approx $5500 it seems like a fair (refundable) expense for an additional 60 months. Especially if I cannot get a 992.2 for a few years.

On my 2009 997 the initial warranty was only 2 years from new, pretty bad but that's how it was back then in Australia. I had the car for 5 years and for the last 3 years I had the Porsche warranty extension, it more than paid for itself with just a couple of repairs one of which was a replacement steering rack. I really liked the fact that it operated just like the original warranty, as in I just took it to the dealer and they took care of everything. In fact that steering rack was something they picked up at a regular service.

By capping it at 60k miles, they’re not going to lose money on you.

Porsche needs to make money at this price, or they wouldn’t offer it for $5,800. They have all the data on the breakdown of components and cost to fix.
Would you offer a product for $5,800 if it costs you more than that in claims?

More people lose on the deal than win on the deal and that is why it is offered-it makes money.
The only time I buy insurance on anything is if the incident will damage me financially or is required by law.

I think the way to view extended warranty offers is to compare them to "self insurance".
For $5800 +$100 deductible you have a cap on out of pocket expense and if that gives you comfort versus the possibility that you might end up paying a total of either $0 or $10,000+.during that timeframe .. you should go with getting the warranty.
Some people are probabilistic risk takers (ie, Porsche isn't going to offer it if overall they won't make money, statistically) and some have deep pockets... for those, "Self Insurance" is usually their choice
And don't forget that at today's (finally) decent money market interest rates (~5% in US) your $5900 is worth considerably more sitting in the bank for 9 years.
