I will finally be receiving by 992 in one month, I wanted to get your thoughts on PPF. Any pros and cons of getting it? Also, for the place that does PPF for me locally, it is also included in the price the ceramic coating which they do before as well as after the PPF. They explained that having the ceramic coating before PPF helps when removing it that it doesn't get stuck to the paint. The PPF they use is XPEL. Another option would be to do the PPF only on the windshield? Or just ceramic coating?
As a contrarian view, I have a 992 on the Dong-A Glaucos right now, have no plans to do PPF. I have a 2 yr old Audi S6 as a current daily, no PPF, and it looks just fine. If I had put PPF on it, I would already be half way through the life of that PPF. Too much hassle for me and not enough OCD to make me want to do it. I'm not saving it for the next guy. Also as we all know, the more you spend on PPF and magic coatings the faster it gets sold. I realize I might get banned from rennlist for my apostate views on PPF
I had front half PPF and ceramic on top. This protection already paid off in my book. BTW, I was told that having ceramic first would hinder with PPF sticking.
Many opinions and a lot of useful information on the matter in these threads. I'm also considering what I want to do when my 2021 white 922 arrives soon. I had full hood/partial front and rockers PPF done on my plain white M4. I also had the "Lifetime" ceramic coating on the painted surfaces, wheels and brakes. After 17,000 miles I had 1 penetration in the film on the front of the hood and the edge of the headlight took a hit that broke a small piece of the film off. I've been going back and forth on what I want to do, but since I'm buying a used car I haven't seen in person yet, I may wait and see how it looks in person before deciding. I will definitely do ceramic but torn between the professional and the many DIY products such as Ammo Reflex and Migliore Strata. If I do PPF again, I would go with Moe's suggestion of full front andv extended rockers like this.

Apparently what they do with it is use a different kind of ceramic coating first which doesn't hinder the PPF, and then after with another ceramic coating.

Sorry, this doesn’t sound right at all. I’d get a second quote.
Regarding PPF on the windshield, another bad idea if you are going to actually drive the car when it rains as your wipers will scratch it, requiring constant replacement.
I did some research between STEK, Suntek, and XPEL and found that XPEL is great at marketing but honestly they are not the leading film technologically speaking. IMO, STEK now has the most superior offering all things considered. It is also worth pointing out that the installer makes a difference, although unlike 5-10 years ago, there seem to be a lot more quality install places (at least around where I live).
The pros of PPF are obvious, protect against rock chips / scratches and also can make washing easier. The only cons is that it costs money and most PPF is going to need to be replaced after 4-6 years probably.
For windshield, DO NOT let them install PPF on your windshield. If you want your windshield protected use a film specific for the windshield (I used ExoShield). It will provide more clarity and is thicker. I also don't drive in the rain (GT3), so I don't use my windshield wipers which need to be cleaned often so not to scratch.
A quality install is probably around $5k-7k for the whole car for PPF. $500 for windshield.
PS. never heard of ceramic coating under PPF... seems counter intuitive. Every installer should know how to remove PPF without hurting the paint, and it isn't that hard.

Thank you
Do not apply Ceramic prior to PPF. Adhesion will be almost impossible unless to remove the coating with compound. Just buy a quality PPF with Ceramic incorporated in it and Ceramic those parts of the vehicle not coated in PPF. Much to be said on this topic so I suggest you research the forum before you commit.
I think PPF is nice to have, that being said, it’s a racket what shops are charging for it. $6k-$8k is crazy for a wear and tear item.
yes, and the real racket is if you want to buy the PPF yourself and install it... some don't even allow individuals to buy it, others charge so much for their PPF material that it makes no sense to do it yourself vs. installer... it's a way for them to protect the installer shops and I guess ensure proper installations

same story here for my Q5 daily, but what I've learned is if you ever go out driving fast with your buddies on the country roads or track your car, this is where chips will occur.
again, all preference, some people are OK with a couple chips and pocket the $6k (especially on a lease or daily)
The cost difference between doing full front and rockers vs full car was negligible for me. My installer said for only $1,000 more he would do the entire car and that has paid off in droves.
I also put Clearplex on my windshield after I cracked the first one 3 months in and it took 4 months for a replacement windshield from Germany. I’ve taken large rocks to the windshield and the Clearplex did its job. I’m almost at 2 years with the film and while from inside it looks absolutely fine and clear, it has a weird rainbow look from outside now. This really only looks odd at cars and coffee. I’ll have it replaced soon.
Never seen a shop ceramic coat under ppf. I thought the film wouldn’t adhere properly. Definitely have a full pain correction done before you seal it in with the film.
