Porsche (or the Porsche family through trusts they control) owns 31% of VW, and the State of Lower Saxony owns 12%.
So, there is significant public ownership. I don't see it as "elite owners."
VW accounted for 25% of the West German economy after WWII. So it has always been a company that has been imbued with public significance in that country.

It's really odd that his happened.
Every single engine is tested at the factory.
I would say someone forgot to put fill oil in it but you wouldn't have made it 201 miles.

No one forgot. You clearly don't know what goes into a PDI. I checked the oil level and it was showing full. It was a manufacturing defect of the main bearing without a doubt. See above images. The oil pan was full of GOLD!

Porsche-certified body shop.
That bumper cover was replaced. $3500 just for the part. $900 for the trim. $10,000 for the catalytic reactors and muffler. More for the bumper support and cross-member which was bent.
I kept the bumper cover because I frankly thought it was repairable if ever needed.
New muffler clamps ($90 each) and heat shields.
Paint had to be blended into the fenders. Taillight was cracked (just slightly, but enough to fog). Replace the clear plastic over the rear fenders.
This was a new car. Everything had to be brought back to new spec.
I have the itemized bill.

oh, muffler and other damage. Still a lot, but much more understandable.
