Hi AlterZgo,

Question on the alignment effort....did they have to take your rims off? The concern is to make sure that the dealer takes care not to scratch the rims

thanks,

Alignments are almost always done with the rims/wheels on the car. The mount the alignment jigs to the rims (with bungee cords usually).

Correct at the dealer they will not remove the rims for an alignment.

Some race shops however will so that they can run a string alignment.

They did not remove my rims/tires to my knowledge. I also have aftermarket rims/tires with wrong sizes 255/315 width tires and have spacers with my aftermarket rims/tires and car is lowered w/ Bilstein coil overs and they didn’t bat an eye and aligned it without issue.

Yep! Just today I went to wipe bug guts off the roof and the black window molding began to smear. I called my dealership and without any hesitation I was scheduled to drop my car off and have the windshield replaced. My car is a 2 year old 2022 C2S with about 3600 miles.

I will be keen to address any damage that occurs while at the dealership.

Awww man. Sorry your car has this issue too. But on the bright side you will get a full alignment which is great since you just installed coil overs and new rims/tires!

I just checked the molding again and it’s not smearing like it was earlier. It’s so weird. There’s a very small imperfection where the molding rubbed off this morning. I’m tempted to wait since my car only has 3500 miles after two years, but that’s just me being uncomfortable with the idea of having my windshield removed and having to redo the Crystalline windshield tint. The dealership said the repair is covered up until I reach 4 years or 50,000 miles.

I just had my alignment done when I added the BILSTEIN EVO’s. I worry about the dealership messing up the wheel face of my HRE’s too.

Swap on your stock rims if they still have tires mounted. Alignment can happy no worries.

If you’re local to Costa Mesa, we have a set of wheels/tires from a 991 you can borrow 👌

Damn! I just left Costa Mesa too. I may take you up on that. The dealership is Porsche Ontario. Can you P/M your number just in case?

Update:

In speaking with the dealership in more detail about this issue, Porsche discovered the chemical makeup of the adhesive that was being used previously interacted with the molding and caused it to breakdown. Apparently Porsche has since switched to a different adhesive.

Sorry to hear bro! I’m in the same situation with my 24’ T and the LWG recall. You’d think it was the first time Porsche ever sourced and vetted glass suppliers. The world is not functioning correctly.

Yeah, it’s crazy to still be dealing with both of these issues. The LWG was an issue even when I ordered my car in April of 2021. Sorry to hear you’re dealing with issues. Is your molding melting and did you schedule an appointment with the dealership?
