To buy my dream car now or remain patient

I am looking to trade up from my 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera cabriolet. I have been looking for the perfect car for at least a year and have recently found a 2020 Carrera S cabriolet in my preferred color combination, Metallic Black exterior and Bordeaux Red leather interior, 7 speed manual (yes manual) very well equipped with < 4000 miles. It is a beautiful car. BUT, there is a premium with the price still @10 K over the original sticker price. I first looked at this care two months ago and the price has actually dropped by over 10K. I am on a waiting list to order a new 2022 model with no time frame on when I might be able to even place an order let alone take delivery. Am I being crazy to even consider this car at a premium price? Should I just be patient and wait? I would be interested in your thoughts. Thank you. Gary K, Phoenix, AZ.

Thanks for all of the helpful comments. I bought the car! I could not get them down any further, but is was 11K lower than the original asking price. I will send some photos when it arrives at my home in Phoenix. I am incredibly excited. I will just be a little sad that I had to unload my 2006 Carrera cabriolet but the 2020 is special.

Will the price you pay for the 2020 911 C2S Cab (no matter what it ends up being), keep you up at night? So that you are thinking more about the $$ and less about the car?
If so, then pass.
If not, then go for it.
Why?
It's only money.
And you could die tomorrow, with never having fulfilled your dream.
Said this before, and will say it again here.
You can always make more money. Time? Not so much.
Good luck.

Manual transmission Cabs are rare - finding the perfect one is hard. In that situation, I usually say buy if you find the perfect car. On the flip side - it's a hard car for dealers to move.
I think I found the car you're referring to. If it's the one, a non-Porsche dealer is selling it which makes the car even harder to move. They might negotiate another $5k off the price. Can't hurt to offer.
When I bought my 993, I wasn't shopping for price. I was shopping for condition, color, spec. I paid on the high end of market value - other people got the same car for thousands less than I did. Maybe even up to $10k less than I did. I didn't like not getting a great deal that I could brag about, but it was the car that really mattered. I've never once thought about the price since.
Long story short - as long as you are within current market value, then it's a fair buy. I believe $10k above sticker may be on the higher end, but I'd bet it is pretty close to market value of actual sold cars.

You cannot get a 22 anymore and the price of the 23 has increased almost 10K from 2020. So other than a couple of thousand miles and an updated PCM what are you really missing in getting a 20? Being that it is in your preferred color combo, I would go for it if I were in your position.

I missed out on a few cars by waiting when I first got into the P car buying game thinking that the spec I wanted was going to be available again. It wasn't. I now learned that with these cars, if you have a certain spec you are looking for and you find it, you'd better act quickly.

If it were me, i would pull the trigger. You never know when you might keel over and the stress/shame over paying 10K over would only bother me until i actually drove the car. To each is own but i value experiences more and more each day.

I paid 15k over. I felt bad while signing the paperwork. I completely forgot about the 15k on the drive home. I still haven’t thought about the 15k….I’m also not waiting on a new vehicle allocation and build date so the 15k over was worth it to me to not have to wait on a car.

I don't think anybody can really answer that for you. Previous posters provided all good thoughts and input but comes down to you emotional investment. Having a car now, used but all other checks out, vs waiting for your personal specified car. I think at that price the new car probably will be similar cost - still nothing is really sold at MSRP. I was in a similar situation and simply did not want to wait (did not hurt that I paid below MSRP for my 2020 with $10k miles). But if it may bother you down the road that it is slightly used and/or you still paid more than MSRP...wait. If having your dream now matters more...jump on it. Make a decision and don't look back. I did and shortly after I bought it home I found an even nicer one (vs my preferred specs) and sure found a few things on my used car "left" from previous owner...but I am at peace with it as I was already emotional attached to it and now just enjoy when I jump behind the wheel.

Get it now. We never know what tomorrow brings. If you want the new car when it becomes available you will be out nothing or thereabouts with it for a trade or independent sale.

It's like Costco...buy it the day you're there or most likely it will not be there next time you swing into Costco.

if this car really checks all the boxes I would be ok paying a little bit more. Keep your name on the list and if/when they call you with an allocation you have a much more attractive trade in
