This makes zero sense... my dealer charged my $900 for the Porsche dashcam itself and the install all in on a pre-wired car. And that's in Canada so the equivalent in the US is like $700 all in
t is easier and safer using this than using the mirror tap.
I'm going to have my Garmin mini direct mounted to the panel (local install charge is $150, so a no-brainer). My V1 G2 I mounted with the mirror tap MTX. While I get that the mirror tap is a workaround, I'm curious what makes it less safe than going to the panel? The detectors draw almost nothing and the mirror tap comes with an inline fuse.
Ive ordered it to be pre wired.
Anyone use it with a LapTimer / camera system for on track, could double as a normal dash cam while driving on the road?
The question left unanswered is, where is the rear pre-wired location?
I'm still wondering this as well. My sales associate tried to convince me that the option was probably unnecessary and the install would still cost around 8 hours of labor (insane! And highly doubtful!) at...$250/hr. I'm really thinking this should be something that can be done DIY in around 2 hours. Surprised there's no DIY tutorial from anyone on YouTube yet. If there isn't one by the time I take delivery (probably in the Fall) I'll just have to make one myself once I figure it out.

Yes please advise dealership. I have a '23 with prewire and dealer quoted $700 for the cam and 4 hours for install ($800 $CAD) in Toronto.
Gentlemen, practically how hard is it for us to install it ourself on a pre-wired car? Is it just a matter of opening the mirror casing and plugging it in?

The Porsche OEM camera when specified for a vehicle with prewiring (VIN required) comes with a harness.
The harness has a camera dock on one end and a male power plug on the other (plus a video connector ???)
The dock is secured to the windshield the male plug connects to the Prewired female connector.
The camera plugs into the dock.
so you are correct it’s plug and play - you have to route the harness and hide it under the rear view mirror cover

Thank you very much @audi4t picking up the front camera from dealership today. Will record a video from the self installation on my 2023 prewired Targa and will post it here.
My dealer quoted me $600 for the Porsche dashcam (full list-$100 more than Southcoast) and $1,400 for labor at $230 an hour.
Apparently, they hadn't even done one yet so the service advisor was uncertain how much labor time installation would require.
I skipped that and installed the $99 Garmin dashcam I already had. I just dangle the power wire from the dashcam, run it through the glove box, and plug the adapter into the power outlet in the passenger footwell that otherwise is useless. The power outlet is high enough on the center console that the plugged in power adapter is not in the way of my passenger's foot space.
The dangling wire is sufficiently into my peripheral vision such that I don't really notice it while I'm driving. The mount for the dash cam is just a magnet that sticks on to the windshield. The whole thing is removable in less than a minute to return the car to stock.
Also, the power socket goes dead about half an hour after the car is parked so the cam won't drain the battery.

No. I believe you have to remove the A-pillar trim and also run the cable under the dash to the fuse box. It's not super simple.

You can also hand-tuck the cord inside the top and right edges of the windshield so it doesn't dangle across your windshield, then bring the cord along the passenger door jamb and across the top of the passenger footwell to the power jack. It's still a "no wires installed" solution but looks a little cleaner.
In feb I took delivery on my 2023 Targa 4s, which was ordereds with the pre wired dashcam. Shortly after , I went to the my local dealership to purchase
the p dashcam, and install. The service dept advised the dashcam required additional wiring, plus computer updates with the install,, btw 3 - 5 hrs
labor charge. I declined and open a case with PorscheN.A.,I requested the labor waived, ,, Porsche declined, but advised that the seller
would refund the pre- wire dcam charge . I understand from them my case remains active, unknown where this goes, but hopefully
it will enable future customers the avoidance of this problem.
