Default wait for the 992.2

Perhaps it is better to cancel orders for the 992.1 and wait for the 992.2 configurator next year. There will be a number of desirable upgrades
and updates for this model. Also the 992.1, ordered now, will be reduced in value from the new model, if you can wait.

Life comes at you fast. No one was predicting the pandemic back in 2019. The invasion of Ukraine was a mere hypothetical in 2021.

There’s a lot of hubris in the concept that inflation and recession will impact other people and not yourself. If it’s bad enough to have such a mass impact and reduce 911 demand, your own buy decision will likely be affected. If you aren’t affected, there’s a bunch of other rich people that you won’t be affected either.

Given the rate of inflation, model year over model year price increases, waiting for the price to get higher doesn’t feel like a smart buy. People who waited for MY2023 are paying substantially more the same car that people got in 2022. That’s before we even get to interest rates which increase the cost of acquisition for most buyers… and those making the poor decision to lease.

(sidebar: for leasing folks, the party will be soon over, because the option to buy at the end of the lease is disappearing across the board. Too many people discovered that they could profit buying the car at the end of the lease and flipping it. So, read your terms carefully)

The most dramatic improvement with the 991.2 was that the GT3 got a manual. There wasn’t a lot of upside beyond that unless you wanted to experience Porsche’s first stab at turbocharging the Carrera. We don’t have a lot of details for the 992.2, but it loses the analog tach and will have updates to address more stringent emissions requirements around the globe. It will probably be a mild hybrid in Carrera form and performance hybrid in TTS form.

I don’t see anything worth waiting for. Plus, you’re another year closer to the 994. You will enjoy a shorter window where the car holds its value. Potentially, much shorter if enthusiasts deem the 992.1 as the one to have.

For those of us who are older and can nearly count their remaining summers on their fingers and toes, there is only so much time on this planet. Those of you who are younger may not yet appreciate the reality of mortality, but this is a finite experience. If you have the means to own one now, do you really want to go another year without one? When the year is gone, it’s gone.

Having lost several friends to the pandemic and a friend to suicide during the height of the pandemic, I am not waiting on anything that I want and can afford.

Ive decided to do this and Im not looking for feedback.

For me (and not telling anyone else here about their life choices) Ive been waiting so long, Ive kinda lost interest in the car. Whereby a year ago, Id be on the configurator daily, I havent been on in months....Ive had 5 P's, 991's etc. Ive got other things peaking my interests in life right now to be focused on.

Im hoping by doing this, the anticipation of what could be in the 99.2 (and I realize it might be nothing) starts to build and my excited for chasing the car restored.
For now, I'll just take the $150K and redeploy into some gutted ETF's and have fun with that.

Interested. What desirable upgrades? I recently received a MY23 992.1 allocation with a Sept build.

I’d rather have the last model year than first year of next gen. Particularly when all signs are pointing to major mechanical revisions, hybrid etc. If it does end up a better car, I’ll buy one in 3 years. To each their own.

But you’re setting yourself up if you believe a newer model will be better in all respects. They’re just a different compromise. Always have been always will be.

Well, if you wait for the year after next year, you'll get an even newer model, with more desirable updates.

Why not just keep waiting for the next one?

This reminds me of the model worldwide where people wait until 62+ to begin to enjoy anything in life, only to not be able to due to health, finances, etc. Look at how many people over 35 that can barely walk at your local Walmart.

Me to0!
And i sold my Endurance Racing Edition with X51 PowerKit, and bought this 991,2 Unicorn Turbo for less than half what a 992 Turbo S would have cost me with the lowest ADM I could find. Over the past several months, I have been upgrading it to better suit me.

If you're close to taking delivery, perhaps you should stick with the plan and purchase. Drive it for almost 2 years and get on the waitlist for 992.2. When the new 992.2 is ready, flip or trade. If the current market holds out for a little longer, you may not lose out financially.

So far, the fog light placement and the taycan dash on the spy photos - both look like net negatives to me.

This. Car smarts dictates you never buy a car in its first production year.

Enjoy your 992.2 and your GPFs. Unless you get a TT/TTS you are likely not getting a Hybrid, and that still most likely won't show up on the 992.2, rather the 994. So your .2 upgrades will be GPFs and a completely digital cluster, along with some other minor refinements, possibly include the exhaust configuration and probably some revised wheel options and color variants.

I forgot about the GPFs - also a net negative.
