It reaffirmed my decision to enjoy the car now, because there’s going to come a time when I can’t do it due to health or finances.
I have it on good authority, that in the afterlife, all cars will be electric.

Pro move: Buy a 992.1 now and trade it in for a 992.2

Trade in values will be strong, having a desirable trade in will help you get the .2 allocation and you get a car now instead waiting til some undetermined future presents itself. The newer version is not always 100% better - if the 992.2 ends up with those foglight zits, you have the option to pass.

excellent idea. I hope the people on the waiting list for an allocation ahead of me at my dealership listen to this wise counsel.

In some cases used cars are going for more than their new counterparts. Possession is nine tenths of the value (instead of law-lol).

Who knows, perhaps there will be another model that interests you, or , horror of horrors, you stray to Ferrari or Aston Martin !
I am definitely not in the camp of “the world is crashing and ADMs are going away tomorrow”, but I also don’t think it is a reasonable expectation that a well maintained Porsche will sell for “full value” in two years “as things are going now”. I wouldn’t have banked on that 8 months ago before the stress cracks of war and inflation started showing - even less so now with all the added volatility and uncertainty. Cars (with rare exception) are consumables, not investments.

Will you be able to drive a 911 bought today for 2 years with less then historical loss in value? Quite possibly. But since you will be buying that car in a historically high market, that may wash out. Or it may not. Unfortunately, I had to sell my crystal ball to by my 911.

There’s a lot of hubris in the concept that inflation and recession will impact other people and not yourself. If it’s bad enough to have such a mass impact and reduce 911 demand, your own buy decision will likely be affected. If you aren’t affected, there’s a bunch of other rich people that you won’t be affected either.

Given the rate of inflation, model year over model year price increases, waiting for the price to get higher doesn’t feel like a smart buy. People who waited for MY2023 are paying substantially more the same car that people got in 2022. That’s before we even get to interest rates which increase the cost of acquisition for most buyers… and those making the poor decision to lease.

(sidebar: for leasing folks, the party will be soon over, because the option to buy at the end of the lease is disappearing across the board. Too many people discovered that they could profit buying the car at the end of the lease and flipping it. So, read your terms carefully)

The most dramatic improvement with the 991.2 was that the GT3 got a manual. There wasn’t a lot of upside beyond that unless you wanted to experience Porsche’s first stab at turbocharging the Carrera. We don’t have a lot of details for the 992.2, but it loses the analog tach and will have updates to address more stringent emissions requirements around the globe. It will probably be a mild hybrid in Carrera form and performance hybrid in TTS form.

I don’t see anything worth waiting for. Plus, you’re another year closer to the 994. You will enjoy a shorter window where the car holds its value. Potentially, much shorter if enthusiasts deem the 992.1 as the one to have.

For those of us who are older and can nearly count their remaining summers on their fingers and toes, there is only so much time on this planet. Those of you who are younger may not yet appreciate the reality of mortality, but this is a finite experience. If you have the means to own one now, do you really want to go another year without one? When the year is gone, it’s gone.

Having lost several friends to the pandemic and a friend to suicide during the height of the pandemic, I am not waiting on anything that I want and can afford.
Agree with the sentiment. I did not even want to wait for allocation and just bought used, low mileage. (First time I bought used for quite some years, new car specified to your wishes certainly has an appeal too). Who knows what may happen in a year time frame - too many variables to worry about it for little benefit and enjoy life now instead. If the 992.2 will really be that intriguing, I simply switch then.

One rule: always buy the newest Porsche you can afford. The new version are always better.

The 997.2 is fantastic vs 997.1. Dfi. No engine problems. Fantastic. Huge upgrade.

the 991.1 was widely regarded as dog poop. Felt heavy and slow. The 991.2 was glorious. Maybe largest gap in history of Porsche.

the 992.1 is a great car. But he 992.2 will be better.

.2 are always better in Porsche speak. Always.

Posting this to keep the thread going with more opinions. Love what’s been shared so far. I’m in the camp of NOW. I own a base 992, which I bought while I wait for a 992 GTS that I have on order. Debating whether I should wait for the 992.2 GTS or even whether I should go with a Carrera S.

Your $60k from 2012 are worth $76k now. Still, not a bad deal to own and drive a 911 C4S for 10 years for only $16k.

I’ll go out on a limb and say there is virtually no chance (barring some systemic quality issue)
the 992.1 will be regarded poorly. It was launched to nearly unanimous critical praise, and it’s an amazing vehicle with only minor QA issues being numerous in nature at this point. Will the .2 be better? Probably..but past performance with the .2 being better is no guarantee of future performance.

IF you saw this you tube video by Nick Murray, he agrees with me to wait for the 992.2. See the video to understand his reasoning.

That’s what I’m saying.
