Speculating On 992.2 Carrera Major Changes

Based on some of the leaks and official so far (some more reliable than others).
Here are my predictions (from most likely to least likely):
What do y'all think?! I think Porsche is stuck between a rock and a hard place with the 911. If they want to keep selling ICE 911's they will need a hybrid solution, the only question is how aggressively hybrid will they be forced go!
Here are my predictions (from most likely to least likely):
- (Very Likely) Price will go up significantly. (Conservatively 7-10%)
- (Likely) the current turbo 3.0L engine gets revamped to work in conjunction with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The system will attempt to provide no turbo lag while allowing the car to idle with the gas engine off. It will not be a plug in system. It will feature some energy recovering tech, like the 919.
- (Likely) Instrument panel goes full digital getting rid of the analog tachometer.
- (Likely) The Carreras will still be offered with a manual transmission.
- (Likely) The 8 speed PDK transmission will likely remain the same.
- (Maybe) turbo 3.0L engine gets revamped to work in conjunction with true hybrid system. The electric engine would replace the front drive shaft & tunnel for AWD variants. The battery pack would reside underneath the rear seats somehow?! [i]This is highly likely to happen for the Turbo S model but less likely for the Carreras.[i] Weight will go up significantly
- (Maybe) VW's Infotainment system gets replaced by Apple's CarPlay OS / AndroidAuto OS.[indent]A bit too early for the 992.2 IMO
- (Unlikely) The NA 4.0L GT3 engine gets revamped to work in conjunction with a full hybrid system (maybe?) & is used in the Carreras for the first time. The Carrera's will gain a parasitic electric (rear-based) engine helping the NA engine fill in the torque curve of a turbo engine. The system will allow the car to pass emissions & noise standards while also providing the NA experience. Weight will go up significantly even with the use of solid state batteries.
What do y'all think?! I think Porsche is stuck between a rock and a hard place with the 911. If they want to keep selling ICE 911's they will need a hybrid solution, the only question is how aggressively hybrid will they be forced go!

The hybrid 911 is the 994 gen. The 992.2 will mostly be cosmetic changes, not big powertrain changes.

there are pictures floating around that the 992.2 will have an all digital gauge cluster. so say goodbye to the analogue tachymeter. going all digital will resolve the corner screen problems that the current 992 cluster suffer from.
the price bump is also inevitable. it was a 5% pump this year, i suspect it will be another 5-7% increase next year.
I hope that the hybrid tech won't be in the 992.2 and that it will show up in the following iteration of Porsche, but if it does show up, it may be only reserved for the TTS.

While I've not been following anything on the .2 changes, my gut is that this will be right - some sort of mild hybrid. I do recall when the 992 came out that there was a weight increase from the transmission, which was built to accommodate future hybrid power. also, it does seem like the current 3.0L hasn't seen any significant overhaul since it came out in 2016.

I’m an admitted huge Apple fanboy but I have difficulty seeing rapid adoption of their newest CarPlay implementation. Car makers have spent plenty of time making their own (generally bad) UI, and some cars market their gauge clusters and displays as part of their heritage. For those manufacturers, Porsche being one, I don’t see them being that willing to give it up.
Think how much Rennlist would howl if the 911 5 gauge cluster got replaced by an Apple digital display in San Francisco font? Even if it was dramatically better, there are many of us that would never accept it.
my shares of Apple stock hope that I am wrong, but it seems like a really steep hill to climb. Not to mention that there’d need to be a lot of digital dash space in order to get CarPlay up and running.

I predict a price increase of 10% and my 991.2 instrument cluster is perfect imo.

The 991.2 saw a major engine change-NA to turbo, so I am guessing the hybrid tech will be available in the 992.2.

None of these proposed changes are positive imo.
I’m sure 992.2 will have some revised styling to bumpers/lights and interior. Mild-hybrid powertrain is probably also coming as BMW and MB have put these systems in almost every car now. Just more complexity for little gain.

I don't see why Porsche needs to bother with it, as you say - complexity with almost no gain. The 994 is coming soon enough with the hybrid drive train. The 911 order book is fully backlogged, they don't need anything more than cosmetic changes to the 992.2 and will completely sell them out in any case.
