Hello everyone,

Been a two time Porsche owner (Cayenne x 2). This is my first 992 build and would love some advice from the group. I live in Edmonton, AB (6 months of winter). Plan will be only to use the car in the summer for now. I am not an experienced driver, so mainly local roads and hwy. I have two young kids (I know this will never be a 4 seater), I am 6-1".

After speaking with my local SA he recommended the base with the options I have included. Any advice would be much appreciated.

In terms of discount with the current climate......do they even exist. We only got 2% off on our second Cayenne, not sure if that is low but they were not willing to budge.

I am not your SA, but I would recommend the S given the options you've selected with the Base.

Perhaps, your SA (or dealership) does not have an S allocation?

I have essentially a cab version of this build as far as the options go. 14 way is comfortable, I’m also 6-1. The only thing I would change if ordering again is I would get the 18 way seat, I’d like more side bolster in the seat back. When I am on the twisting roads, I don’t feel as secure in the seat side to side as I’d like.

Your config looks great. I configured my C2 Cab (July delivery) with similar options sans the sunroof and sports exhaust. I’m 6’4” tall and find the 4 way sport seat comfortable with sufficient headroom. I suggest adding the Bose as it does make a difference. As for the base v. S model, the base has plenty of power for daily and spirited driving. Some will argue the S brings higher resale value, but I plan to keep my 992 for many years, so it’s not a factor.

Looks like a good build to me.

Yeah, you can go to an S for the price, but then you have to give up most of your options in place of more HP. It’s a never ending debate around here.

Your SA has champagne taste with a beer base budget trim . Porsche staggers the option pricing where an identical item costs much more on a lower trim car . There are people building modest GTS cars at 150K . In short its a beautiful car but priced way out of the market for its trim .
If however you love the car and pan yto keep it forever then buy it but if this is a shorter term thing (5 years our les) be prepared to get slammed by that same SA when he tells to a trade in number for the next 911.

Ahhh this is Canada? Oh ok this seems fine. I will prob drop the moon roof or the color or both to bring the price down. That blue a bit too bright.

@yrralis1 OP is in Canada. This isn’t a 150k car US. I took a look in the configuration, the options are priced the same between base or S on this build with the exception of the wheels (S starts with a more expensive wheel as standard) and leather.

I didn't realize it yet its still proportionally high . Keep in mind that the average shopper doesn't hang out on car forums and tends to stick to a budget with any entry level trim . Porsche actually produces MRM numbers for people who lease and that is where most dealerships tend to stick when (once upon a time) they built lot cars . They hope a person walks in , loves the car and has a choice of either buying or leasing . A high option car woiold gets crushed in a lease and the person who buys one gets crushed when he sells . That still doesnt stop me as much as it happens to be the most dramatic on base cars . That applies across the entire line up with a base Macan being the worst culprit . The 911 fares a little better but is not exempt .

Wow thank you for all the comments. I plan on keeping the car for at least 7-10 years. I agree I didn't think I needed the S.

I took out the more expensive paint, removed the glass sun roof and went to 4 ways. I don't think I have ever used the full function of the 14 way on the Cayenne (when I get to drive it).

So 11 grand more (CND) with only about a 2% discount give me the S in manual vs base pdk. Im leaning towards the base now, but again would love any further input. Is the sport Chrono necessary in the base? I was told you get it or do not need it in the S.

My build is cheaper by $2300 with more HP than a comparably equipped Carrera. You should try the same exercise.

Your Carrera S build looks great to me. Suggest seeing if your local dealer has the 4/14-way seats as well as the 4/18-way sport seats plus to try out in person to see which one fits you best. Also, I’ve been in the market for a 911 in western Canada too and unfortunately every dealer I talked to says they aren’t discounting right now and I believe them. On the positive side, there are no additional dealer markups (well, apparently there are some dealers that will demand you spend a certain minimum on options… another thread on that right now). Good luck with your search!

Regarding sport chrono, I’d definitely get it with the base. The car is .2 seconds quicker with the SC to 100km, and the convenience of the mode switch plus the sport response button is something I use every time I drive the car.
