992 GTS - Harry's garage

Something about the GTS makes it look/feel just a little bit more "special" to me which I like. Unfortunately the way they set up the options I can't make it look the way I want it to look so despite really liking a lot of what it offers (especially the brakes, interior and short shifter) ultimately I'm an emotional car buyer and its gotta stir the right emotions and I don't like the clear tails or wheel options.

Harry and Chris Harris are the only two that I would actually take their opinion to heart when purchasing a vehicle, everyone else is just there to entertain and brown nose the manufactures. Anyone else on the GTS configurator after watching Harry's video last night? ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

[QUOTE=Drew46;18002654]I get it and I agree. But, to be fair, it is not what you wrote:
"I would only choose to buy a GTS over an S if I could personally tell a measurable and significant difference when behind the wheel. Otherwise, why spend the money? "
There seem to be a lot of GTS haters and I just don't get it. One of the nice things about so many, many different 911 models - and options - is that you get to design the car the way you like it with the things that you appreciate and value. The availability of the GTS just expands on that.
I certainly didn’t mean to throw hate at the GTS or any other model. They are all great, and as I have said, I believe the GTS is better than the S and would choose it if each car were free. Since they are not free, I am unsure at this point, due to my use case and the dollar premium I would personally upgrade. I will not know that until we can get more comparisons out there. Hopefully I’ve clarified my position, I believe it is reasonable and doesn’t harm anyone else’s opinion or viewpoint, which is equally valid.

I think at the end of the day people should just get what they want and like, be it S or GTS, or whatever.
Just make sure when you do it, you do it with full information.
And once you make your fully informed decision, there's really no need to (1) justify it to all of us here in peanut gallery and/or (2) denigrate those that made a choice different than yours.

Doug's review was very good. thanks. now I'm back to deciding between a S, 4S, and a GTS. I'm sticking with my order for a 4S. I think in the end, I use to street race when I was in high school. The idea that an 11 second S or 4S is not sufficient power is comical. All of these cars have acceleration that was unheard of twenty or thirty years ago. And I'm too old, and too affluent to do the dumb shid I use to do in high school with high performance cars!!!

I have zero skin in this game and not sure if this was posted in another thread but Doug DeMuro has the same feelings for the GTS as Harry does.

GTS with custom plate "SWTSPOT" is Porsche bliss.

It's also an easier medium to get annoyed at people. Without being to see facial expressions and body language, you're left with just expressionless text. That doesn't help...
Anyway, I'm with you on the GTS hate... it just doesn't make any sense, other than attributing it to envy. I'm also self-aware enough to know that I exhibited similar behaviors in the past attempting to "justify" my decision to go with an S "over" a GTS... there are certainly benefits of an S over GTS, but they're pretty much limited to budget advantages. All things being equal (i.e., cost), there is very little room to argue why anyone would ever choose an S over a GTS.
Although configurability is a legitimate argument. Wheels and interior options especially. If there weren't more apparently tangible differences in this 992 generation, I'd have to say I'd be more strongly considering an S, with the much wider variety of 5-lug wheel options... and if you don't like the race-tex/alcantara look and feel, the reasons for wanting a GTS start to diminish.

To clarify for those of us that don’t see it…what exactly constitutes “hate” against the GTS? It’s the right car for some people, but for others, don’t see it for them…how is any of that “GTS hate”. We are all brothers from the same 992 mother. 👍 How is this different from someone’s opinions on color or options, or manual vs PDK?
But if that’s “GTS hate”, then so be it.

The brake thing that comes up every now and then - you can hardly declare that the bigger brakes are useless based on two unrelated tests separated by space and time. I seriously doubt the GTS has longer stoping distance than S in a proper comparison test.

The bigger brakes on the GTS isn't just about stopping distance, but their heat dissipation after repeated stops

Another difference that has come to light in the last few reviews is a different flywheel in GTS. A "strengthened dual-mass flywheel to cope with the additional torque". Unclear how much that matters - plenty of the 'regular' flywheels are dealing with additional torque from the tunes going around.
