Yeah I like Nick a lot. In fact I am a Nick from NZ too, so what's not to like? But I disagree re the GTS. It has most of the options I would choose, so for me, it makes sense.

I think that if you are looking to tune your 911 the GTS has some advantages. I read some where that the GTS has a beefier flywheel to deal with the extra torque. Add the larger brakes and Turbo suspension and it becomes a nice package that could manage another 80 to 100 ponies.

My build for the GTS actually broke even with my build for a C2S BECAUSE I specced the carbon-ceramic brakes for the above reasons... I don't think the performance impact for my personal use of PCCBs justifies the cost premium, but I would have made it work just for the visual effect alone on an S...
Plus in all the video reviews the GTS just sounds epic. The Carrera S sounds just ok. I have to painfully admit that I always had a bit of "GTS envy" when I had my 991.2 C2S, based primarily on the "hidden" benefits of the GTS; sound, suspension, etc. They may even be placebo, but there does just seem to be that little bit of "extra" about the GTS... and anecdotally I felt the same about the 981 Boxster GTS I had before the 911.
I do disagree with his take on the GTS, but he brings up some valid points.

He mentions that the 997 GTS had the GT3 engine when he was describing his "dislike". This is... well, it's just wrong is what it is.
I don't watch Harry much but I have to wonder how he made a gaffe like that.
Otherwise I can't seem to get enough vids about the GTS so was a good watch.

Kidding.

I don't think Monkey Man ever actually sat in, let alone drove, a GTS when he made his "review."

The way I always understood it, the GTS was the S with the factory "powerkit" i.e. X51.
I'm sure it's a google search away, but I vaguely recall the 991.1 getting different intake plenum, and the 991.2 getting different turbos. The rest is software. Not sure about the 997... and also not sure I'm 100% correct.
But I am pretty certain that no Carrera GTS ever got the GT3 engine, de-tuned or otherwise.

The biggest advantages of the 992 911 GTS over the "regular" 992 911 C2S is the shorter throw 7MT (if you're opting for a manual), the retuned suspension and dampening, and the larger Turbo S brakes, all of which are not available on the "regular" Carrera.
Whether that's important to you is simply a personal decision.
But for anyone that says you can option an "S" to mimic the GTS without all the Alcantara, er, I mean, Race-Tex and various GTS specific trim bits, is really missing the larger point of this generation's GTS -- it's not necessarily about more power, but about a different driving experience despite the (minimal) power delta.

I have zero skin in this game and not sure if this was posted in another thread but Doug DeMuro has the same feelings for the GTS as Harry does.

In another thread, I briefly mentioned how a persuasive Sales Agent played Jedi mind tricks on my weak-willed mind and got me to spec full leather for my Cayenne and Carrera S orders. "These are the leather-specs you're looking for" ...
Well, I am apparently worse than the Stormtroopers outside the Cantina at Mos Eisley... because even YouTube reviews can work their mind tricks on me.
I've just cancelled my S and put in the order for a GTS. I'm now looking at a middle of next year delivery...

Now the GTS is a true price premium, but has several aspects that cannot be optioned on an S. In addition to what you mentioned, there is also the helper spring and rear seat delete option.
It's part of a broader strategy to further differentiate all Porsche GTS models. For other models it's been a different engine, while the 911 got non-engine upgrades.
