Hello everyone,

Hope you're all doing well.

I am a bit stuck on a situation and wanted to ask your advices as I am very new to Porsche. My local authorized Porsche dealer have confirmed with me that I will be able to config in May and then receive a 992 Carrera (will be my first Porsche) by latest this August. However, I have been seeing some rumors and some early pictures of a facelift 992 (992.2). So I wanted some opinions on whether you all think I should use the small deposit that I already gave and transfer to a 992.2 instead for whenever they start taking orders for it. When do you all think that the facelift one may possibly be announced and usually how long after do they hit the roads? Should I wait a while more for that or just go this one now? The dealership have told me that it won't be on the roads until the last quarter of 2023 at the very earliest, and may possibly even be in first quarter of 2024, which if that is the case I would just take the 992 now. I just don't think I would want to get one and then less than a year later see the facelift version already on the road.

Every 911 has been an evolution of the previous 911 - they all kind of look the same. Personally, I'm not so hung up on the potential appearance change. How bad do you want the car? I'd take the bird in the hand but only you can make the decision for yourself.

If you want a 911, I don’t see the point in waiting.
The 992.2 is bringing some changes, but not all of those changes will be positive for everyone. For example, the analog tachometer appears to be gone with the new model. It also looks like hybridization is coming as well and maybe even long rumored global particle filters. The new grill design is er…uh… busy.

With the pandemic, I’ve very much adopted a philosophy of not pushing things off. We all don’t know where the world will be by 2024. Add in global inflation, war, energy prices/availability, and supply chain issues on deck… yeah, I’d take the allocation in hand with a near term timeline over any hypothetical.

There will always be "the next one" . Its not always better either . If you feel that you may at some point be tempted then just keep the build modest in options . Base 922 holds value well if the miles are kept low and the options modest . Life is short . One thing this whole Covid thing taught me was that people I knew who seemed healthy one day were gone the next week . You have the opportunity now . I'd take it .

I had the exact same time frame as you in 2021. I knew the 2022s were coming out but I assumed it would be basically the same as 2021s with minor changes. Of course, the 2022s came out with a few key items that I didn't know about that I wanted - shark blue paint option and PCM 6, which is much faster and with homelink that actually works well. I was miffed about it for a bit, but in retrospect, I am really enjoying my last to be built 2021. If I waited for 2022 models, I would've had to get back in line and who knows when I would get another allocation. After getting mine at MSRP, I saw prices start going up significantly as well.

In your situation, if 2023 will be a 992.2 model, I would probably wait. However, if 2023 will be another 992.1 iteration, I would keep the 2022 model allocation.

From what I've seen, the changes are superficial and not too significant.
Depending on when your car is scheduled for production, it might be a Dot 2 anyway.
The loss of all the cars on the Felicity Ace is going to set the schedule back.
We ordered our car in June 21 and it ended up scheduled after the cutoff for 2022 models. (The only significant change was to add Android Auto).

You missed the price increase for the 2022 models. If I recall, it was $1,000.

Go for it! The more you wait the more your missing a great ride. You can always trade up if you see something you really want in the future while enjoying the 911 you have now. 😎

Off topic, but how does Porsche numbering system work? Why did they go from 993 --> 996 --> 997 --> then back to 991-->992? Why didn't they just progessively up?

The Porsche Type is an internal numbering scheme. There are cars that we don’t get to see, ie types that don’t make it to production or past concept design, and this is why the numbers aren’t necessarily sequential.

If you can't config until May then the new model cars should be announced by then. Make a final decision based on that. If they can move your allocation to the new model year (assuming you like the updates) then go for it. Otherwise, stick to the my22 allocation.
