Thank you for everyone's replies so far. The new model cars should be announced by May? That is very soon. Does that mean the 992.2 may hit the roads as soon as early 2023?

No it just means the 2023 model year will be announced by then and you will know the changes if any. Price will change I'm sure, and there may be some minor differences in the car and the options available. Could be the 992.2 as well. We'll find out.

I am also in a similar situation. I just paid 10k for a PTS Targa 4S allocation in Europe, and the dealer said he could deliver it in November, but with winters here not really made for 911, I told him I would prefer to have it delivered in March 2023, with build year 2023, and the dealer agreed.

However, I am in a bind with these 992.2 news, so I will see later in the year. If they launch it in May, I doubt he would deliver ac992.1 in March.

For what it is worth, the facelift doesn’t seem too different from the actual car, a bit worse looking if I may say.

The dash looks like it's going all digital, and that was enough for me to go for a 2022 model.

I had a similar situation last year - had deposit and config for MY21 and I knew about the MY22 upgrades. My build was scheduled to hit the factory floor before the August break but ended up being a first week of September thing. I was bummed to miss the last days of Summer, but I guess the retooling was already done at that point and in a nice turn of events I ended up with a (mostly) MY22 spec car (PCM6, etc.) for the price of a MY21. Always a silver lining...

P.S. Losing the mechanical tach may be a step too far for me.

I echo what most people say of going with more of a sure thing. May config with August build seems pretty fast these days, maybe that’s a May lock? That would seem more in line with what I’ve been seeing.

I have been first on my dealers list for a Targa GTS since June 2021, got their first allocation in around November for a Jan lock date, hoping for a late April / May delivery. So it will be close to a year when I get it, in retrospect getting available car a year ago and trading it when the new one delivered might have been a good idea.

I’d order the one you have allocated now and if you love the new car get on that list when they open it up and keep the miles low for the trade.
