Video comparison that I saw recently and wanted to see what the general consensus from those that moved from 991.2? I do have deposits on GT3 and GTS so do plan to upgrade to 992 from my 991.2 T if i ever get an allocation.
Personally I much prefer dash design of 991.2. I also like the bright metal trim on the seat controls, steering wheel, doors/dash. On 992, its black which just looks cheap to me. Then you have the shiny black plastic in the center console and the idiotic razor shifter.
For VW group overall, it seems the new generation cars have more cost cutting than the older ones. Not sure if its Dieselgate or pandemic related.

Get the aluminum shifter. It’s better.
Upgraded trim gives you bright silver metal pieces which look a little more upscale.

When the photos of the 992 first hit, some members of the press quipped “991.3”. Then, they drove a 992. It was a bigger leap than anyone expected.

I don't think that's what this thread is about in all fairness. It's a very valid point and worth discussing so that Porsche (who we know is watching) can notice that people notice. Not that they care though.
Before I start, Yes! 992>991 by default.
I very closely followed the 992 photo leaks, rumors, and even attended the LA auto show unveiling a few years ago. It was noted by others who saw the car first hand before the public that the interior was cheaper and of lower quality. I then noticed this first hand.
Porsche messed up because they went too mainstream with the interior design (not features). The 992 interior has more in common with your run of the mill entry level car interior than the 991 does in terms of plastics/materials used and design. Even speccing an interior on the 992 is nowhere fulfilling as it was the 991, you got more out of the older car. The 991 interior felt like Porsche. It was unique with a small touch of buttons that were found in the VW parts bin. The 992 interior is not a unique or special place to be in. It's nice, new, modern, but not Porsche. This time around it's largely VW with some Porsche cues.
At the end of the day this is Porsche we're talking about and it is well known they're hardly a car company. They're a money making machine and they know what they are doing.
It's not a money thing or who has the newest, latest, and greatest. 9 out of 10 people have more than the means to afford these cars and some. It's always in the details, and the 992's interior was a major "no go" for buyers like myself and others. Does this mean the 992 sucks and it's not good enough to meet my standards? No! I still cannot rule out a 992 from my future. It's still great.
I think OP posted a great video which puts things in perspective rather than some guys opinion.

The video tries to take you on a journey by showing, solely through the precision instrument that are his opposing thumbs, what bends and what doesn’t in the interior trims of the two gens. It is quite entertaining. Ultimately those who don't have a 992 yet find the video ‘comforting’. Let’s not take that away from them.

I was considering a Boxster over the 992 Cab at first but what turned me off was the dated interior and infotainment. It’s the same as the 991 generation.

^ I do like the Boxster interior. I had a 981 Boxster and it is much the same as the 982 (718) and the 991 Carrera. I really miss the cupholders! But my '22 Cab - 2 months in - is a solid build. I have absolutely no complaints at all, the quality seems to be primo.

The 992 interior has a more plasticky feel to it, esp. at the major touch points.
I think I prefer the layout of the 991 generation as it is more driver focused, esp. the center tunnel and layout of the PCM screen.
But I don't think there's any degradation in fit and finish from 991 to 992. That video takes two cars and compares them. Any fit-and-finish discrepancy between the two is more likely due to sampling error than any objective difference.
But, yes, otherwise, the interior cabin of the 992 (in terms of functionality) is better than the 991 generation.

To me a 991 interior is old compared with the 992; the 991 is really a carry over from the 997 with an updated center console. At least thats how it comes across to me. As far as fit and finish, after 18 months mine still feels solid and like it’ll last for many years. I do still miss the proper door pockets from the 997 though.

The ‘22s have matte finish door buttons for the windows, lock, etc. It sounds trivial but they do have a more expensive feel than the previous design.

Can’t comment on the build quality of the 992. From one short drive, I did like the new instrument cluster but did not care of the rest of the center console and the interior quality seemed the same as my 4.5 year old 991.2 4s. The build quality on my car seems very good and it has held up well in the time I’ve owned the car. No loose trim bits, nothing is cracking or warping (i have the full leather interior) and everything’s seems as tight as they were on day one. I notice some squeaks and rattles on bad roads that were there right from the beginning.
The interior is rather old and not that different from my previous car, a 2013 Boxster S. That may turn off some buyers but it does have a very familiar feel to it. The cupholders feel flimsy but haven’t broken.
