20/21 VS 19/20 Wheel Diameter
Has anybody downsized their wheel size in search of better ride quality ? I know many have lowered tire pressure but looking for some info on actually going to the smaller wheels. Thanks
I think several members have downsized via winter wheels and tires and may be able to give good A:B feedback. More sidewall should improve ride quality if same brand/model tire is part of the equation. I have 20/21 and I am very happy with the ride quality. I was a bit concerned and was also thinking of ordering my 992 with the standard wheels, but am glad I opted for the upgrade. It is so much better than my 2017 M3 in terms of ride quality (and pretty much every other attribute, although I did like the hud and the wireless charging features on the M3).
I have the 20/21's for summers and the 19/20's for winter - the 19/20's are really compliant, but I will say as massive that the 20/21s are, they are not terrible from a ride perspective. If looking for winters I would definitely go with the 19/20's to give more sidewalls, easier to find those size winters, and much less expensive as well at those sizes.
I have both 20/21 summer wheels and 19/20 winter wheels for my 992 C4S. Having driven the car more than 34k miles, wheel diameter has practically no impact on ride quality. No matter how you slice it, these are very low profile tires by any standard. You will get more out of running with the comfort pressures and than you will with a downsizing wheels.
There have been reports that the sports suspension (the 10mm lower option) hurts the ride quality. I'm in the Chicago area and I do NOT have that option and think the car is very compliant on 20/21s (better than my old M3 which had the 19" wheels). I'm now riding on my 19/20 winter setup and dare I say, it is a touch soft! That's probably a combo of the winter wheels and the larger sidewall. Either way, to answer your question, there is a big difference in the ride quality.

I have the Carrera classics as Summers and put on the OEM 19 and 20” for winters and they ride a little better due to the taller sidewalls. I don’t find the summers objectionable when using the comfort pressures.
I’m super impressed with the ride quality- 20/21,
my previous sports car had 20s and I swapped out to 18s cause the ride was ridiculously harsh.
Currently I’m on my winter set 19/20. And I’m looking forward to swapping back to 20/21 in the spring

Did a back to back road test, C2 with 19/20 and C2S with 20/21. The smaller tires offer a VERY small improvement in ride quality ... something you wouldn't notice unless you go from one to the other, as in the first day you fit the winter tires. It's not as extreme a transition as going from RFT's to conventional summer tires.
I have put 28,000 km on two sets of Porsche wheels tires: the 20/21 Carrera Classics with Goodyear F1s, and the 19/20 winter wheel package with Pzero WInters. At the same Comfort tire pressures, at most temperatures, the Summer tires on the 20/21 wheels have a slightly more compliant/softer ride. If I get caught in low temperatures (under 5 degrees C or 41 F) the F1s stiffen up a bit, but that's a rare occurrence as I switch to Winters every October.
I think the quality of the ride has more to do with the tires than the wheel sizes.

Will echo other sentiments here. I have Carrera Classics (20/21) with Pirelli PZero Summers from factory, and I noticed no ride quality difference when I swapped to my Carrera Winters (19/20) with Pirelli PZero Winters. I have both sets at 34 psi front and rear.
The Pirelli winters also ride just as quiet as my summers, which was shocking to me. The winter wheel/tires on my Macan sound like truck tires.
