Fear of being a Luddite

Wow, totally disagree. Not even close. But, in the event that one thinks they are a super safe, never gets distracted driver…either don’t get, or if you get for other drivers in the family, turn it off when you are the driver.
While older drivers certainly get distracted, I see plenty of younger drivers (I mean like in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s) who drifting over their lane while cruising down the road at 80,mph. Could be a million reasons…from taking your eyes off the road while changing stations on your PCM, to a coffee spill in your lap, something rolling around in the back seat that’s annoying, etc, etc. Chit happens…and if you don;t think it does, well, maybe you should re-think that position.

Some technology, not all of course, actually creates distracted driving, instead of mitigating it.
Think haptic feedback inputs, Bluetooth connectivity, touchscreens, etc.
And of course, one should never confuse distracted driving with just stupid driving, which is what I think things like LKA and LCA really come into play. If you're distracted, even with LCA you might be distracted not to notice the warning. But with LKA, it just simply overrides ones's stupidity and keeps you centered regardless.

Absolutely no question that distracted driving is a significant issue and getting worse. I am not sure that treating the symptoms with technology is an effective cure for the disease. If the reason for doing it is because people are distracted, we are in a sense saying OK, go ahead and don't worry about paying attention.
Good luck with that. Until people give a F*ck, manufacturers (not the Government) have stepped up to offer solutions. Porsche is no different. A year ago, a family friend’s child was killed by a drunk driver. Even now, a year later, the father is still a wreck/devastated. I recently saw where Subaru was now offering technology that addressed the problem of people driving while drunk. I applaud their effort.
Coming up on a million COVID related deaths in the US, alone, and we still only have 58% of Americans willing to get vaccinated.
We live in different times from my father’s generation. We only care about ourselves.

Ugh, some of you folks need to go back to: swing axles, roll up windows, wing windows instead of air conditioning, fuel reserve tank levers with in cockpit fuel filters, window screens for oil filtration, ten foot long mechanical tachometer cables, worm and sector manual steering boxes, clutch cables and six volt electrical systems.

I also own an old Porsche so I know exactly what you're saying here when you write this, but I'd defy you to take a 992 (any variant) on a track and tell me it's not a sports car.

So very true, so many people are so self-centered today. All they think about is me me me.

That ship sailed in '12, when the 981/991 cars introduced electric steering. Even assuming those early EPS systems couldn't turn the wheel themselves, it wouldn't have taken much more weight/power to make it happen.
