Took my car out on a pleasant drive through the back roads of TN on Tuesday, and it was a beautiful day. Headed back home for lunch, and coming on the mountain when this happened.
I am doing OK physically, my back hurts a little more than it used to, but for sure reason I'm still sick to my stomach. After having my house taking a direct lightning strike in March (day after COVID-19 shot and getting shingles from it), I am only 98% done with dealing with insurance company. Now I not have to start dealing with another insurance company, it will be the state government (but they are here to help, right?) as well. I will include a few photos in this thread after lunch.
I am assuming I will be lucky to get my car back by December but probably not until next year with insurance people and part issues to deal with? Thoughts / comments? Thanks.
P.S. Even though the driver did NOT try to deny responsibility, I (and the TN State Trooper) was glad to have the video footage as backup.
That sux...glad you're ok. You just need to find somebody's dad whose a TV repairman, with an awesome set of tools.
I had this happen a few weeks ago, right before I was about to sell it. Geico approved shop. Only problems I have are that the replaced fender is a little bent, and you can see the variance between hood and fender lines of the two fenders. If I push on the fender from the side, the gap goes away, but as soon as I let go, it comes back. Its as if there are adjustable mounting holes, on each side of the fender, and they have the screws too close together, and the fender is bunching up/bowing out. Also, while the paint matches, the texture is not quite the same. The factory paint is noticeably smoother, but only if you are within 2ft. If this matters, make sure the shop doing the work can mimic factory finish...some light wet sanding after painting needed?:
Replaced and painted fender, and door. Repaired bumper and body under door near hinge.

That's a crying shame, but good thing it's just bent metal. After dealing last year with an accident (wife driving rental car) where the other driver admitted full responsibility then changed his story, and the insurance company said "OK...50/50 claim" I would never drive again without having front and rear cameras. Also ditched that insurance company.
Ouch. Not nice and a nuisance to deal with I know but it's just paint and metal. Of course there will be the normal chorus of 'diminished value' etc. but that should repair fine.
Ouch. That sucks! I'm sorry to see that OP. That looks like an easy fix though. New Bumper, hood, fender and door. I would not worry to much about that at all. And I'm glad you are ok. **** happens.
Its so hard to think straight when you see things like this coming at you. So please don't think I am trying to rub anything in your face. Not at all. But did the thought of trying any evasive maneuvers cross your mind? It seems like you had a good second or two to yank it right into the shoulder/grass?
It's a Rove R2-4K Dashcam that I had previously that I put in the 992; it was $99 at the time but now it's $120. It obviously isn't anything fancy but it did its job. I had to edit / trim down the 3 minute footage due to the HUGE size of file so I could email to state trooper. I then had to put it on YouTube, even with its smaller size due to email size limits.
When I asked if he received it and viewed it his comment was "Oh yes that confirms what I thought".
Damnit that sucks. Was the truck even supposed to be on that road?
That are NOT prohibited on US 31 but they are finally on the Tail of the Dragon (US 129) although a couple still slip through occasionally and cause HUGE issues. If he had bothered to 1) slow down (probably trying to keep his momentum going up the mountain), and 2) had bothered to just look back via his side mirrors, he could have stopped in time!

I asked my Porsche SA about this and he guessed about 10%. I would love to hear thoughts or actual experiences on this. I was NOT able to pursue diminished value in Ohio on a previous 911 but it appears that Tennessee might be more agreeable but I am SURE it will be a painful process regardless.

No insult taken. Actually what you can't see (fortunately I could) is how much the road dropped off on my side which would have caused serious damage to the undercarriage and would have been "my" fault since he would not have stopped (since he didn't even bother to look in his mirrors coming up). I couldn't go into reverse (one minor negative on a MT) since letting off the clutch (ASSUMING I could get it into reverse fast enough) would have caused me to roll into him as well since I was pointed downhill on a fairly steep decline.
It will be interesting to see just how much this set of repairs will cost in the end. I'm guessing $20K, plus or minus given what could be damaged underneath (intercooler, etc.) I just wonder how many months it will take to get the parts to fix it. I have already added my name to the LIST for another allocation ... should I need it OR choose to go that route.
