I'm just glad his trailer didn't come "up and over" the top of the frunk!

Listen **CAREFULLY** and you will hear the audio go SILENT for 1-2 secs. Guess what was edited out?

Glad that you’re okay. It doesn’t look like great shakes — a classic fender bender. Being without it for while will be annoying, but should be back in your hands looking lovely.

It’s nice that truck driver stopped when he realized that he made a boo-boo. That doesn’t always happen. It could have been worse.

I couldn't go into reverse (one minor negative on a MT) since letting off the clutch (ASSUMING I could get it into reverse fast enough) would have caused me to roll into him as well since I was pointed downhill on a fairly steep decline.

It will be interesting to see just how much this set of repairs will cost in the end. I'm guessing $20K, plus or minus given what could be damaged underneath (intercooler, etc.) I just wonder how many months it will take to get the parts to fix it. I have already added my name to the LIST for another allocation ... should I need it OR choose to go that route.
Good. I certainly don't want you to think I am kicking you when you are down. And now that you have explained that; I totally understand! I am guessing this will be closer to the 30-40K range. And I would let your insurance company know that you want "diminished value" added to repair cost. They just need to tell the other insurance that they want it. Its not your fault you got hit. And its shouldn't be your burden to eat when you go to resell it. Best of luck to you and I am so very sorry that happened to you.

But at least you are not hurt! It could ALWAYS be worse...

Best of luck.

If there is a bright side, you were out in a 992 on Tuesday, and not relegated to driving something like that truck.

You can at least get a ball park by checking body panel pricing on getporscheparts.com

Surprisingly, my total bill was only $2,200. Not 911 pricing, but still...and I had damage to the body under where the bottom of the fender meets the door, something that would need skill/time "repairing", rather than replacing. Got the car back in about a week...also thought it would be delayed getting the panels from Germany...hopefully you'll have some parts avail. locally. I think the big ticket cost on your repair will be that headlight.

Had a guy hit my 981 Boxster back in April - I had the car for less than a month at that time. Made me sick. Fortunately he's was driving a big dually and his front wheel hub hit my rear driver's side wheel. Not sure he didn't do it on purpose. It was 2 miles before I could get him to stop to swap information. Fortunately I had a witness because the driver told the claims rep that I hit him. In the end, they paid for a new wheel and nothing was reported to Carfax. Long story short, I am getting a dash cam for my 911 but probably won't go with the Porsche branded one. I will want a rear one too but I'm not sure how that is going to work with a cabriolet.

Its so hard to think straight when you see things like this coming at you. So please don't think I am trying to rub anything in your face. Not at all. But did the thought of trying any evasive maneuvers cross your mind? It seems like you had a good second or two to yank it right into the shoulder/grass?
Firstly wanted to say to the OP - glad you are OK and it is only a car, that can be fixed or replaced. These types of things are scary and then a pain in the butt to get fixed....

But Hate to say it, but I was thinking the same thing on potential avoidance. Speed was not high for the OP, when I see a switch back, and a Semi - I would want to break and give them tons of room breaking about 30 foot earlier might have given more clearance. If not, the right seemed to have enough room to potentially avoid and give some additional clearance by moving off the road a bit as a last ditch effort.

Again, I know how quick these things can happen, and it is 100% impossible to know based on the video if you could have done anything...

I have done track racing most of my life, so some of that is experience based on reaction and what to do in a small window during an urgent situation.

I bring up track driving, as if you ever get a chance, that is worthwhile to anyone that wants to become a better driver, specially in hairy situations. I took both my sons to driving school and track days to have them learn how to be more reactive and defensive drivers...

Actually the 992 stopped him. I spun my rear tires trying to reverse and I had to yell at him to backup his *#U#*&$@ since he couldn't figure it out on his own.

I guess you will always have to have someone sitting in the back holding the rear camera! I definitely recommending having at least a front camera at a minimum.

I'm sure you can route a small camera to the license plate holder. I had a 981 boxster and luckily it has a fixed wind buffer so I stuck my rear cam on the buffer. Worst case, just get a front/back cam (like the one lyft drivers use to record the interior) and mount it under your rear-view mirror. Most likely you'll catch a little bit of the rear exterior through the window.

Something like this maybe, with a tiny rear cam

What an irony that the very truck that hit your car was of type that could also transport your car away from the scene

Ouch! So sorry to see, glad everyone is okay.
Dash cams are such a blessing to have, they pay for themselves after needing them only once.

OP I'm sorry this happened to you.

I am not scalding you in anyway, but you could have avoided that accident no problem. Move over to the shoulder, there's plenty of room.

Take care!

It really does look like you could have thread the needle to the right to avoid without having to leave the roadway/shoulder. These things happen instantly, and I'm sure you regret not having done x, y, z. And frankly, you shouldn't have had to - that fellow shouldn't have been on that road, for sure, and if he was he should have been moving at near 0 speed to go around that bend.

Sorry that happened. All the it's a car and thank god you're not hurt crap wouldn't make me feel better at all. I'd be steaming pissed and out for blood.
