I bought an iCarsoft POR2 that works well on my 17 Cayenne, worked on my 981, and I fully expect it will also do what I need on my 718.

 

Talking with my indy mechanic about oil the other day. He tells me they've been using Total pretty much exclusively for the last several years. I'm the opposite of an expert on oil and never heard of them (he thinks they used to be ELF), they do indicate their 5W 40 complies with Porsche C 40 (as noted in the table above). I realize part of this thread pertains to obtaining 0W 40 but has anyone used Total products or have input?

Total is French oil brand and used to be I think part of ELF (also French). As long as it's C40 whatever oil brand is fine. The ZEROw40 is really only for people like myself in very northern latitudes. By going to 5w40 will limit my driving to temps above -25F.

Siberian, Being that I live in SoCal, and when it gets to below 60, I look for my "parka", I can't even comprehend driving around in -25F. How often does it get that cold up there?

 

Schools don't close until it reaches -40F. Lowest I've seen here is, it was colder than that but that's as low as the thermometer sank to was:




We (used to; I'm retired) work outdoors all year round. So 25 below isn't really that cold and we're from Hawaii

I don't see the Motul 8100 X-Clean Gen2 5w40 on the list.

 

They're not on VDub's list but they're on mine - see post #43. Who're going to believe VDub or me ????
