That indeed is the big question, I have no doubt as to what you will be billed though. The main point, for those of you doing their own service/work is:
Given the choice of A40 and 0w-40 viscosity or C40 and 5w-40 viscosity, you should use the 5w-40 C40 option and until the x3 ESP C40 availability is expanded, Motul and Liqui Moly are your choices given they both meet the C40 standard.

So after several false starts with distributors saying they did have the oil but later after double checking with their warehouse finding out they didn't, I placed a(nother) call to Liqui Moly asking for their help as there didn't seem to be anybody in Alaska who stocked or were able to get Liqui Moly (or specific Motul for that matter).
At this stage I just want to take a moment to thank Stefan @ Tech Support at Liqui Moly for the time (and I do mean time!) he spent trying to find a way to get said oil up here as well as explaining the technical intricacies of C40 oil. THIS is what Customer Service should be, thank you!
So after much time and research we found that of the two places that carry the oil (neither of course are free ship to AK) the cheapest shipping was with FCP Euro. A note of caution. Pay careful attention to weight in your order as this goes (THANKFULLY) with the PO and not FedEx or UPS. Thus two 5 liter containers are $10.98 but if you add one liter to the order it jumps to over 56 bucks. Thus much cheaper to place separate orders which in my case ended up being 3 orders: Two 5 liter containers, two 1 liter containers and two Mahle oil filters.
The part number for the 5 liter Liqui Moly 4110 Top Tec 5w-40 Porsche C40 is 22122
The part number for the 1 liter Liqui Moly 4110 Top Tec 5w-40 Porsche C40 is 22120
The only limitation over the Mobil1 recommended oil is the viscosity, thus for the year round drivers in cold climates, don't drive the car below -25F and use CERATEK additive as added protection when you're getting close to those temps.
For those doing your own work, I hope you find this useful

In closing I just wanted to point out the extremely speedy turn around at FCP Euro.
1) They mercifully don't use FedEx or UPS and not this silly "Ground" version which means they just pass it on the the PO
2) They shipped Priority Mail with the PO.
Ordered 8/12 arrived today 8/16. Two 5 liter bottles $10.98 and the rest of the orders apportioned to fall within that weight bracket.
You don't need to subsidize FedEx or UPS nor places who refuse to use the PO for given weight/size parcels.
siberian (who swapped out his Mobil1 0w-40 top off bottle in his 992 for one liter of Liqui Moly 4110)

Plenty of 991.2 oil change videos and other than the oil specific issues it should be the same.
But even better ya'll come over, I'll put some cold ones on ice, some silver salmons on the grill...

I'll leave the light on for ya!
But best hurry temps are starting to dip for you "southern dwellers"; temp today 42F, rain and 18mph winds, near time to do tire swaps, oil and filter changes and get Olga ready (Chains...)

Actually there are some changes from the 991.2 video so I think this is a better overview. Alas I can't remember where I got it from so apologies and thanx to the original poster.

Definitely agree. Same for reverse torque wrenches, you should never use that to judge what something was torqued to

I just heard back from my Porsche Service Rep (and Porsche Canada) after I sent a follow up email to Porsche Canada on Aug 15 as well as a voice mail to the Service Rep. I expressed my frustration after a month + of no action.
Short story- they will drain the A40 oil and filter they installed in May and replace with Mobil 1 C40 spec 0w40 (which apparently is in very short supply.)
I have not looked into this supply issue but they believe supply of C40 0w40 oil will improve this fall.
Porsche Canada indicated that the A40 oil is very similar and would not damage the engine (and would not effect the warranty) but agreed that it is not the correct oil for a 992.
Finally, I’m surprised that I was the first person to bring this to the attention of Porsche Canada, if that is indeed true.

Don't fee bad, the Parts Dept. didn't even know about the C40 for 992s here. As I mentioned Liqui Moly is an alternative as long as temps are above -25F

Yes I will likely go the 5w40 route next year when I resume preforming my own oil changes- it’s part of my car hobby. If it gets below -25F here then I likely won’t leave the house anyhow.
Now I have a year to find a device that will reset the maintenance reminder.
