Default Android is 80+ % of the world market

Frustrating that so many cater to Apple. Hell, Apple doesn't even have >50% of the US Market. We Android users feel oppressed, marginalized, discriminated against, and any other over-used adjective today. That's all.

Apple will get its comeuppance if hubris leads them to think they can build electric cars. Without something paradigm-busting - which hasn't anything to do with phones or services - their glory days will soon come to an end. Even though I've been an Apple user since the '80s, I used CarPlay in my 992 for about 3 days then turned it off. Others here seem to have differing experiences, but my view is it's poorly designed, not even remotely integrated with the PCM from an interface perspective and flaky as he**. Even my wife, who has every Apple product from iPhone to earbuds to multiple iPads and watches - and cuts Apple a whole lot more slack than me when things break and don't work (3rd set of earbuds that won't take a proper charge, for example) - pronounced it unusable midway through our first road trip in the car.

I think Android Auto is apart of PCM 6.0 that is hitting the next round of 992 911s though?

Compelling and fresh. Thank you for your insight. I’d be interested in your take on PDK vs Manual.

In the income demographic of people who buy Porsches, I imagine the numbers are reversed - 80% use IOS. Apple may have a smaller share of the market, but they have almost all the profits.

Android's 80% marketshare includes lots and lots of cheap phones. Although iPhone is a minority in marketshare, they take about 2/3rds of the profit of the smartphone market.

You’re the minority of Porsche owners. That’s what Porsche cares about, not the entire world.

Fact: Androids are far more easily hacked, than Apple. Enjoy.

It’s not as simple as a matter of market share. The demographics are quite different between the devices. Users of iOS devices tend to be more affluent and fashion conscious — this is directly reflected in their shopping behaviors as consumers. Outside of the US, iOS users are even more affluent. Sure, Android is 80% of the global market, but when it comes to Porsche owners, the 80/20 ratio is most certainly reversed. It’s probably more like 95/5.

Yes, Porsche is now going to support Android Auto in the 2022 model year. They’re doing it, because they have to. There’s an upcoming age group of Porsche buyers that will want to use whatever phone they own with their Porsche. Until recently, Ferrari didn’t support Android Auto either, but added support for similar reasons.

I’ve always owned both and perfectly comfortable with either. I have no dog in this fight, but I do have to say that I found myself using my iPhone more when I got my 992. Now, I use my iPhone almost exclusively. It’s become my daily driver.

Note true. There was a recent iPhone exploit where you could brick someone’s phone by sending a malformed SMS message. Both platforms have their idiosyncrasies and vulnerabilities.

Baloney. Is true. Attend a few Black Hat conferences, like I have, and you will know the truth.

To be clear, not saying that Apple's can’t be hacked...just that Androids are far easier to hack. Android’s are a hackers wet dream. I know this for fact. But believe whatever you want. Don’t care.

For what it’s worth, there have been many security analysis article of the two platforms over the years. But those that work in this field don’t need articles to know what we know to be fact, and historically, iOS has been shown to be more impervious to successful attacks, than Android:

This. It’s 100% this. BMW has even gone on record to say that the slow roll out of Android Auto on their cars is because the vast majority of owners have Apple devices vs Android ones, thus they allocated resources to the most common denominator, while other brands catered more to Android Auto. Given that Porsche is up market to BMW, I’m willing to bet the same reasoning applies.

Android is definitely weaker than iOS in the security department. In fact, most intel agencies would prefer their targets have Android because it’s trivial to get into them.
