992 GTS Discussion

I literally just walked away from my GT4RS inbound allocation. it was a very difficult decision... but based on the fact the economy is in a bad state... and we are dealing with tons of corporate greed, I cant justify spending $80k ADM. instead, I decided to keep my GTS.

I think I made the right decision... even though flipping a 4RS probably would have made me money. however, I have never been a flipper nor do I want to be. I just love that car and would want to keep it. BUT if the market course corrects in the coming months/years then ill feel terrible for paying over, especially by that much. so trying to adult a bit.

$80k ADM??????????
That isn't very respectful and i can't imagine any car worth that. I would walk out and never walk into that dealer again. These dealers need to understand that we didn't get to the stage where we can afford these cars by making dumb decisions about how we spend out money.

People keep posting that sentiment yet you still can’t walk into a dealership and place an order at MSRP. I don’t even know of a dealer sitting with an allocation that can be had on the spot for an ADM. So maybe they actually do understand how we make decisions about spending our money.
For full disclosure, I paid an ADM to get the first Targa GTS allocation at my dealer when they were released last November - damn, I can’t believe that was a year ago. It went against every grain of my sole to do it - just from a “moral” position and feeling like a sucker. However, factoring in the increased cost of a 2023, that ADM cost me less than $7K. So, I could have saved that $7K and still be sitting here waiting for an allocation which may not even come in 23 and may not come before the 992.2 or I can be out $7K on a $185K purchased and have enjoyed my car for last 6 months and over 7000 miles. Looking back - and understanding confirmation bias plays into all things - I have absolutely zero regrets. But many people would and, for them, paying the ADM would be a mistake.

personally, I think ADM and the limited allocations around hot cars is just the perfect storm for dealers. But its really a reflection of the economy itself. Corporate greed is a HUGE reason why we have inflation. All that being the case, the buyers are the ones ultimately that make these price increases ok by still making the purchase. These cars are a luxury any way you slice it. so the fact of the matter is, we are to blame. And I am not by any means judging anyone for making the decision to buy a car over sticker. its just the reality of where we are at right now. However, I do think that a dealer who would work with me to give me cars at MSRP would have my business for life. any dealer that gives me something with ADM is just me taking advantage of the fact I can get the car for a price. but I dont think ill ever consider a dealer like that a "partner" for my car buying needs for life.
That is the gamble these dealers are taking. do you want customers for life? or do you want opportunistic buyers? do you want advocates for your customer support and service? or are you so used to getting over paid with every sale that you cant imagine going back to the way things were pre-pandemic?
Either way, I do wish we can get back to a place where things are reasonable. paying $100k+ over for an allocation is nuts. Which now is common place. here is an exercise... Imagine you withdrew $100k for your bank. they gave it to you in a bag. on the way home someone robbed you and took it. wouldnt you be devastated? basically that is what dealers are doing to us.

Corporate greed is why we have inflation? The reason you have anything in your life is because of corporations, large and small.

I feel “fortunate” to be getting my 992 GTS here in a few months, ETA 1/6/23 at MSRP.
I traded a 991.2 GT3 at a fair price last year and they were holding my tax credit for a while (TX) and I realized I just wasn’t going to get a GT3 allocation, so I finally worked my way up the dealer chain of command and they gave me a GTS allocation. Works better for me as I have two young boys and they can ride in the back. Not so much in the GT3.
I don’t feel like I’m giving up too much besides that 9k rpm wail and better track suspension. Anyway, can’t wait to get it. Python green too because it’s just a fun color. A guy in town rolls around in his 992 Turbo S with that color and I think it looks good.

Not looking to get into the weeds here.... but thats not what I am saying. greed and capitalism walk a fine line. I think we are currently on the wrong side of that line presently.
